Easter eggs are nothing new, and Google often embeds them in its products and services. The most obvious example are the Easter eggs commonly found in the Android mobile operating system, which can be accessed by tapping the Android version in the settings menu. When searching on Google, Easter eggs are rarely buried this deep, and often their location is obvious. Google launched Wizard of Oz Last year, the hit film starring Judy Garland was released in 1939 to celebrate its 80th anniversary. Even though it was released at the right time, the Easter Egg is still there and working fine, just search for “The Wizard of Oz” to get started.
How to Start the Wizard of Oz . Easter Egg Hunt
After performing a search, the usual results are returned, including links to various sources of the movie. As part of the search results, Google often includes a so-called knowledge panel. This is a small information box provided by Google that usually highlights known facts about a person, company, or movie. In case Wizard of OzThe lore board also includes a pair of sparkling ruby slippers, similar to the pair Dorothy wore in the movie. These sandals are the key to Easter egg hunting.
Clicking (or tapping, if you Google on your phone) these slippers will immediately launch the easter egg. If the volume on the device is turned up, a “There’s no better place than home” audio file will play, accompanied by a quick animation showing the heels of the sandals snapping together. Once the animation and sound are complete, the Google search page will switch to a sepia-toned version, like the scene from the movie “No Place’s Like Home”. From then on, Google Search will remain locked in this sepia world until the user performs another search, clicks one of the search results, or clicks the tornado icon has now replaced the ruby slipper.
