Minecraft Player’s Scary Elmo Build Is Tickle-Me Terrifying

A recently shared Minecraft build depicts a terrifying recreation of the iconic Sesame Street character Elmo. While it is quite common for players to share their creative builds, which often feature characters or locations from popular fiction, Sesame Street is certainly a new creation. This iteration, especially, is sure to not be much of a hit with the children.

It has been more than a decade since the now renowned sandbox title debuted and as gaming hardware continues to improve, the possibilities of what can be done in the best-selling video game of all time continue to expand. One of the main shifts Minecraft builds have seen over the years is an increased focus on functionality versus creativity. More and more creators have turned to constructing contraptions that can actually move and in some cases even assist in gameplay. That said, traditional builds are still thriving throughout the community and are reaching scales combined with a level of detail rarely before seen such as a Minecraft Vietnam War diorama.

Then there are creations like the one recently posted by Reddit user RedstoneRocker, who shared an image of a haunting build that is supposed to showcase Elmo from Sesame Street. Instead of a faithful recreation of the lovable puppet, however, viewers are treated to an oddly distorted construct the looks like something out of a nightmare. Both RedstoneRocker and the comment section agree on Minecraft’s Elmo’s scariness with the former captioning their post, “the children are fast but Elmo is faster.”

With time, effort, and careful precision, Minecraft players can reach a surprising level of detail in their recreations, making them appear as if they came straight from their original source. Back in 2021, one player put this capability on full display when they recreated all the original 151 Pokémon sprites in Minecraft. It seems universally accepted that the Elmo in RedstoneRocker’s post is nowhere close to that, however, it is unclear if the original intention was to make a screen-accurate recreation or something that exists in nightmares.

Contrary to surface appearances, there are actually many terrifying elements scattered throughout Minecraft. Depending on which mode a player chooses to engage in, it can truly be a stressful and unnerving experience and that comes before builds. Scary Minecraft constructs do not get shared throughout the community as often as other builds even though there is likely a good amount of them. This is probably for the best, though, if this latest Elmo is any indication of what other horrifying Minecraft builds are lurking out there.

Minecraft is currently available on all platforms.
