The Sun first told last year how Alex – who plays Simon Barlow – was leaving the ITV show after 15 years and he has now wrapped his final scenes.

An insider said: “Alex has been putting on a brave face saying he quit the show but in reality bosses decided it was time for him to move on.

“It’s been incredibly emotional for Alex and he really doesn’t want to leave at all.

“He’s been begging bosses to keep him in mind for the future. He wants to go back already.”

Last month, Alex confirmed his exit telling fans: “Well my day is done! Nice and short day today! I’m gonna miss this little space some dearly when I go!”

“So glad I’ve got some shooting days left! So thankful! “

He had a huge leaving party over the weekend alongside his co-stars, who shared pictures from the bash.

Alex wrote: “Thank you to everyone who came last night. It was an absolute blast.”

Alex landed the role as a seven-year-old and shocked fans in 2018 when he revealed he was becoming a teenage dad in real life.

His then-girlfriend Levi Selby gave birth shortly after her 16th birthday to daughter Lydia-Rose. Alex — 16 when Levi fell pregnant — was 17 and had only just sat his GCSE exams.

He has been involved in a string of controversial Corrie storylines and won the British Soap Award for Best Young Actor in 2011.

He was joined on stage by Chris Gascoigne, who played his dad Peter Barlow – and he has since left the soap too.

Simon has been struggling to cope in the ITV soap opera since the sudden departure of his father from the cobbles.

It has seen him find himself at a difficult period in his life with him appearing to struggle socially – and hitting the booze a lot.

His final scenes are set to air this summer.

Corrie has been contacted for comment.
