The Circle, the popular Netflix reality show, is less than a week away from returning with a new season. But there is a new twist: to make it to the finale, the candidates must be single or must try to convince others that they are single. This season is officially called Circle: Singles and the only two requirements are that you either be single or appear to be single and not romantically involved with anyone. While the series boasts many new contenders, an original cast member of season one is returning to try his luck at winning the championship again. Fan-favorite contestant Shubam Goel made it to the end of The Circle’s first season, coming close to victory and finishing as runner-up.
The official synopsis for the fifth season of The Circle is as follows:
“Circle: The Singles, the reality show’s next season, will follow contestants who declare their emotional readiness as they compete for popularity with their withdrawn co-stars. Some of these contestants will tell the truth, while others will compete individually for the Season 5 prize money.”

The Circle’s Shubham Goel works for eBay as a project manager.
Shubham has been a fan favorite since the first season. Originally from Danville, California, he currently works for eBay as a project manager. Before that, he worked as a software developer at the iERP company he co-founded. After joining the Netflix show, he gained a large following on social networks, often sharing documents. He has more than 380,000 followers on TikTok. Shubham keeps his followers engaged and entertained by posting material about his time on the show as well as goofy comedians.
Shubham gave an exclusive interview to TIME after his stint on the reality TV show, in which he revealed what prompted him to join the show. He explored it:
“When my friends showed me the flyers, I thought the idea was fascinating. A gathering of strangers from many walks of life chatting on social media, hoping to stay connected while other people from all walks of life chat on social media, hoping to stay connected. This is the reality we’re living in right now.”
He continued:
“Nothing else really describes the reality we live in. So I thought if I could come here and speak my mind on social media and try to make a real connection with people. , I’ll see how it goes. Seems like a decent training ground.”
