Strictly Come Dancing is back with a new season that will light up the BBC One stage. The lineup has been announced and fans are delighted. This season’s performers include celebrities that everyone admires. Richie Anderson is one such star that will take the stage. He is best known for his work on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast program, but will now appear on the BBC’s all-night dance programme. Other TV presenters, athletes, actresses and Paralympic athletes will join Anderson on stage. A total of 15 superstars will participate in the historic season. Richie Anderson will be part of the second male couple in the competition.
Anderson is no stranger to the BBC. The award-winning presenter is a frequent guest of the BBC Breakfast programme, where he provides travel updates and even presents his own radio programmes. The presenter, who will appear on Strictly Come Dancing, is a former Sunday League player Coombs Wood FC. In 2018, the 35-year-old player revealed his sexual orientation to colleagues. On The One Show, he appeared in a special about homophobia in football and went to meet his teammates during the taping. After the game, he sat down with his teammates and explained why that role meant so much to him.
He declared:
“I play gay football. So I just want to be open and honest with you guys, it’s just classic and it’s hard for me to do this.”
Anderson’s speech was interrupted when his teammates started cheering and praising him. “Richie is Richie,” one of his team members told The One Show.
Then he said:
“It doesn’t matter who you are, what color you are, what race you are or what your sexual orientation is. You’re a member of this team and that’s all.”
The BBC regular will now appear on Serious Come Dancing as the show’s second male partner, and although there’s no word on who will be his partner, fans Serious’s graves and contestants are delighted. In a statement, Richie shared her excitement at appearing on the show.
He declared:
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! I can’t wait to dress in sparkly sequins and spin around the world’s most famous dance floor. It’s also a great honor to be a part of it. join an all-male duet dance; it’s important that we have that national team in such a big performance.”
RuPaul Drag Race judge and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Michelle Visage recently gave Richie some advice on BBC Radio 2. Before taking the stage, he asked for her advice.
Michelle said,
“Avoid fashion.”
The two then belittled her appearance on the show and her fashion show, with Richie telling her he “liked her”. Michelle said,
“I guess the British didn’t.”
