With every new piece of Star Wars storytelling, it seems as if another survivor of Order 66 is uncovered, further proving just how resilient the Jedi are – and how the Sith can never quite seem to get rid of their ancient enemies. With Darth Vader sending out Imperial Inquisitors to track the Jedi down across the galaxy, how were the Jedi never wiped out?
Many Jedi did a successful job of hiding themselves, with people like Ahsoka Tano and even Obi-Wan Kenobi concealing their whereabouts among citizens of rural or backwater planets and trying to adapt to the simpler life. Others received help in being transported across the galaxy for safekeeping, such as the network that ran through Jabiim as seen in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Some renounced their identities as Jedi altogether and considered a darker perspective, like Ahsoka‘s Baylan Skoll. While these efforts have all worked, there may be one real reason why the Jedi have never been wiped out, and it has nothing to do with the Jedi themselves.
Order 66 Wasn’t The First Jedi Purge
While Order 66 is the Jedi Purge most viewers are familiar with, it certainly isn’t the first the Jedi have experienced throughout their history. In The High Republic novel Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, it’s stated by Yarael Poof – who was also a member of the Jedi Council in the prequel Star Wars era – that there have actually been a few instances in their history where the Jedi Order has been reduced to just a handful of Jedi. This confirms that the Sith have tried wiping out the Jedi many times before, but they’ve never been able to complete the mission. The Jedi keep coming back, as strong and resilient as ever. Huyang Has Helped The Jedi For 25,000 Years
Huyang in Ahsoka has confirmed he’s been around for 25,000 years of the Jedi’s history, leaving him to be one of the few withstanding and valuable constants in the history of the Order. The droid is even 75% of his original parts, which is impressive considering how long he’s been alive – especially through multiple Jedi purges. While he, of course, specializes in helping the Jedi to build lightsabers, he has a lot of wisdom and insight to offer the Jedi, as often seen with Ahsoka in her series. Huyang has long since been an instrumental part of the Jedi Order, and this theory suggests that it may even go a step further.
Huyang Is The Real Reason The Jedi Have Never Fallen
While Huyang has never remained within the Jedi Temple, he’s always been around to provide counsel and wisdom to the Jedi, inspiring new generations to rise up and call upon those who came before them while learning from their mistakes. This is the role Huyang takes on in Ahsoka, doing what he can to mend the relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine so they can move forward in a way the Jedi of old wouldn’t have been able to. He could have even paid a visit to Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Temple on Ossus, seeing as Ahsoka would have needed to get there somehow when she herself visited Luke in The Book of Boba Fett.
As the Jedi have fallen throughout Star Wars, Huyang has always remained, passing on the history of the Jedi to those who will rise and re-establish the Order once again. It’s very possible that Huyang will be seen taking on such a role in Rey’s New Jedi Order movie, as he would be a valuable asset in helping Rey to build upon the ashes of what Luke himself had tried to do. So long as Huyang and his 75% of original parts are around, the Jedi will always stand a reasonable chance, especially as the droid continues to provide counsel to new generations. He has more knowledge on his belt than that of lightsabers, and what he has is valuable enough to have saved the Jedi from extinction several times in Star Wars history.
