Viviana Hollenbeck went on their first date on March 1, 1976. It didn’t take long for them to realize they were meant for each other and they got married on August 28, 1977. The couple have been happily married for 44 years as of 2022.
In March 2021, Eric and Viviana celebrated their first wedding anniversary. Viviana posted on her Instagram “Out And About: Ferndale! Eric and my 46th anniversary of our first date! Oysters and champagne at Angelina Woodfire restaurant! We met some old friends and made some new friends! What a wonderful sense of community! We then walked through Russ Park, a peaceful walk through the fir trees! We are so thankful for our 46 years together and for our beautiful home!”
They are the parents of two daughters: Care Viane Hollenbeck and Dayl Hollenbeck.
Speaking of his daughters, Cara’s boyfriend proposed to her in September 2020. He worked at Mauna Loa Helicopters as a General Manager. She is the owner and designer of dragonfly diva and also works as a spiritual teacher/healer and is currently based in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Dayl is the owner of Dayl Marie Massage. She is specialized in fitness and body wellness. Her husband also has a daughter named Cita Island from a previous relationship with his ex-wife/partner Rhonda Kime.

According to her LinkedIn, Viviana is a co-owner of Blue Ox Millworks. She was a fearless supporter of her husband during the economic recession of the 1970s. Before Viviana met her husband, Eric started a logging company with 3 partners and a $300 bank loan.
They used that money to buy a used chainsaw, a set of chokers, a half tank of gas, and a little blue truck they named Ophelia Bumps. They rented a building that was the former North Mountain Power Company building for $50 a month to store trucks and cables. The building began to fall apart in 1973 and with the help of the bank they bought the property with monthly payments of $600.
Viviana helped her husband run the business during the recession, their only business not affected by it. In addition, it grew from a lumber company to include a sawmill, blacksmith shop, foundry, pharmacy, print shop, pottery, fabric and stained glass studio, labor history museum, high school, veterans program, radio station, and non-profit organization.
Now Blue Ox Millworks is a landmark in its own right in Eureka, California, and Eric’s mastery of the woodworking trade has allowed him to reach that pinnacle of success. Viviana, along with her husband, also runs Blue Ox Community High School, an alternative school for at-risk teens in partnership with the Humboldt County Office of Education. They initially met after Viviana moved from Southern California and contacted him one summer in her early days.
They ran the school for 19 years, and starting in 2018, they began to include other schools.
