Maisie Williams, a British actress, talked about her difficult relationship with her father as a child and how it affected her.
In an interview with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO podcast, the 25-year-old actress described her relationship with her father as “difficult”. According to Williams:
“I guess I didn’t realize that a lot of the terrible things that were going on were not true.” But I know – I would glance at other kids and wonder, “Why don’t they seem to understand this anguish, fear, or horror?” “Where does satisfaction come from and when does it come?”
Maisie also described how one of her instructors noticed something was wrong with her when she was eight and had trouble sleeping. She remembers that her father’s suffering had “peaked”. Then the instructor took her into the teacher’s room to check on her.
Williams commented on the teacher’s “point-by-point question,” saying:
“And she was like, ‘What’s wrong?’ You know what happened?” Are you hungry? ‘Have you had breakfast?’ “No,” I replied. “Oh why not?” she speaks. “We just don’t have breakfast,” I said. And then she asked: ‘Do you usually have breakfast?’ When her mother picked her up from school that day, she said it was the first time all the doors were open, as well as “the first time everything was on the table.”
She continued:
“However, I want to argue and tell you that these things are not bad, that you are just trying to separate me from my father.” I was brainwashed in certain ways. That’s probably why I love cults. Because, you know, I get that. I get it. I am a member of a juvenile cult.”
On the other hand, Maisie Williams did not detail her relationship with her father because she said it hurt her and her family.
