On Tuesday, September 9, 2022, federal prosecutors charged Justin Kuchta of Maryland with the life-threatening crime of Texas Senator Ted Cruz. The US attorney’s office announced the case in a statement on Wednesday. Although prosecutors did not identify Ted Cruz in a statement, they said Kuchta, 39, a former Annapolis city employee, has been charged with a criminal offence. He was accused of sending an obscene email to a member of Congress.
Prosecutors released the contents of the email echoing a series of false claims that had gone viral on social media about a connection between Texas Senator Ted Cruz and Zodiac Killer, a serial killer who escaped in the late 1960s.

The senator repeatedly mocked the claims and dismissed them as baseless. It should be remembered that the senator was born two years after the first murder of the Zodiac killer.
In a series of emails, Justin Kuchta threatened the life of a member of Congress.
In July, Justin Kuchta received an online invitation to the event from the Texas congressman’s office, according to prosecutors. On July 19, 2022, Kuchta responded to an e-mail by threatening to kill the politician. Kuchta escalated his threats against Cruz in a follow-up email a few days later.

The threat was reported to police in July by an employee in the senator’s office in Texas, and investigators are said to have tracked emails to Kuchta’s IP address in Annapolis, Maryland. According to the affidavit, Kuchta was interviewed at his workplace, where he admitted to sending messages from home on his work computer, but pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
According to Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s spokesman, Kuchta previously worked for the Office of the Comptroller. If convicted, Kuchta could face up to five years in prison for making federal threats. Erek L. Kuchta, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced criminal charges against him.
“You have the right to your own beliefs, but you must not threaten the life of a federal official; We will continue to prosecute these threats to the full extent of the law.”
Ted Cruz increases security to deal with threats
Ted Cruz has been the target of many threats lately. In July 2022, 22-year-old Isaac Nformangum was arrested after he called Cruz’s office and threatened to kill the senator by shooting him in the face or smashing his skull into a brick. In April 2022, Erik Kikkert, a convicted felon and former soldier, was arrested for threatening the senator with a series of threatening voice messages and texts.
