Michael Cheshire, who created the art, explained that the illusion is a two-dimensional work made of wood veneers on a solid background.

In the description, he said: “The impression of depth is created by choosing three wood colors arranged in a hexagon that looks like a 3D cube.

“With lots of hexagons arranged to overlap and of different sizes, the 3D effect is magnified. By adding the larger outer hexagons, another illusory cube is created that encloses and balances the entire design.

“The spaces in between also help to give the structure an overall 3D effect. Even when it turns out to be flat, we are forced to see it in 3D.”

The illusion was shared as part of the Illusion of the Year contest, which celebrates the most stunning images from around the world.

The contest included a controversial entry involving a pair of crocs and socks, as people were divided on what they saw.

“Under normal lighting conditions, all people see Crocs as pink,” explained creators Pascal Wallisch and Michael Karlovich, speaking of their illusion.

They noticed that when placed under a green light, most people see the same crocodiles as the gray ones.

“However, some people, those who believe the socks are white even though they look green, can look back and see the pink crocodiles, just as they did in normal light,” Wallisch and Karlovich wrote.

“Surprisingly, when we make socks really white, people agree that crocs are grey, illustrating the power of assumptions.”

It comes as an optical illusion of an amazing black and white image of a parrot that looks completely different after 15 seconds.

While the awesome image makes these bricks look very shaky.

Also, the artist challenged viewers to find out which part of his painting is a drawing, but can you figure out which part is not real?
