Over the years, many have tried to turn Facebook into a dating app by sending unwanted nude photos through Messenger, attacking people in photo comments, and generally stalking people’s pages. Perhaps this gave the mega social networking site a clue as they have now introduced Facebook Dating. Do you want to know how to choose a date using this new service? This is what you need to know.
Getting started with Facebook Dating
Facebook Dating is not a separate application, it is integrated directly into the website. If you have a Facebook account, you’re already ahead of the game because you’ll need it to access Dating. Although your dating profile is separate, the dating section pulls some of your information from your other profile.
First, go to the Facebook app, tap on the menu icon at the top right of the screen and tap on Departures. (If you don’t see Appointments, you should probably tap see more option). You will then be redirected to the Facebook dating section. Click on Begin and follow the onscreen instructions to set up a profile. You will need to specify the gender you are looking for, the location and choose a good photo of yourself.
From there, Facebook will automatically generate a dating profile for you by skimming your singles profile. You can then modify the profile exactly how you want by deleting things, adding photos, and adding posts from your Instagram by tapping View profile option. When you are satisfied, click Made.

Now Facebook will start sending you matches. This process can take several days. Don’t worry, Facebook won’t suggest your current Facebook friends and no one will see your dating stuff outside of the Facebook dating section. When you get a match, you will receive a notification. If you like the person you’re connecting with, tap the heart icon on their dating feed.
To start a conversation with one of your partners, tap on their profile picture and an option to write a message will appear. When you’re done writing your witty intro, tap the arrow icon to send your message. Messages can be accessed by pressing conversations at the top of the feed screen.
Do you want to connect with people who have the same interests as you? Go to the menu and tap Suggestions of your events either Suggestions from your groups, then tap the event or group, slide the button next to it, and tap See suggested matches.
How to Create Secret Crushes

Are you in love with someone and want to use Facebook to help you get to know each other? The Secret Crush feature allows you to add up to nine of your Facebook friends or Instagram followers and it will notify them that someone has a crush on them via Facebook Dating, if they have a dating profile. If both of you are added as secret crushes, Dating will let both of you know that you are in love with each other. If there is no match, no one will ever know about your crush.
To add a secret crush:
- go to menu
- Tap Go to Secret Crush
- Tap I understand
- Press the + icon
- Find the name of the person you like and add them by tapping the + icon next to their name
How to delete your Facebook dating profile
Whether you’ve found the love of your life or are just hesitant to use Facebook as your cupid, deleting your dating profile is easy and won’t affect your other profiles. Go to Appointments in the Facebook menu options. Touch the icon at the top right corner of the screen, touch delete profile low In general section, then touch Delete.

Can’t find dating on Facebook? Maybe you don’t have it yet. It is currently available in the USA, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Uruguay and Vietnam. Facebook says that Dating will be available in Europe in early 2020. If Facebook Dating isn’t for you, you can turn your attention to other dating apps.
