  • Superman: Legacy is conducting screen tests with the top Supergirl contenders in Atlanta.
  • Supergirl’s DC Universe debut will reportedly be in David Corenswet’s movie, with Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly as frontrunners.

The DC Universe is getting closer to landing their new Supergirl as Superman: Legacy is reportedly doing screen tests with a number of frontrunners. James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is in the final stages of pre-production before principal photography gets started. However, the Man of Steel may not be the only Kryptonian to return to the big screen in 2025.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, screen tests have been taking place in Atlanta, which is where the first DCU movie will film in March. The trade reveals Supergirl will make her debut in David Corenswet’s Superman: Legacy, with House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock and The Winchesters’ Meg Donnelly as the current frontrunners. This comes weeks after the initial Supergirl casting update confirmed Alcock and Donnelly were in contention. While Emila Jones was in the mix at first, she, as well as Cailee Spaeny, are seemingly not going forward.

How Will Supergirl Fit Into Superman: Legacy?

If Supergirl ends up being in Superman: Legacy, it begs the question of how Gunn is planning to fit her into the overall story. Similar to the other heroes who have been added to Superman: Legacy, she could potentially be a supporting player to help with Gunn’s vision, as he has confirmed this is a version of the DC Universe where superheroes are already established. Her presence will likely also set up her Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie that is in the works.

Many previous Superman adaptations have usually featured how Clark discovers the existence of his cousin, but Superman: Legacy might be skipping that part. In this incarnation, perhaps Kara Zor-El and Clark Kent are already in each other’s lives, with both of them operating as Supergirl and Superman, respectively. However, until Gunn and DC Studios confirm (or deny) the report, time will tell if Supergirl is actually going to be in Superman: Legacy.

Supergirl. Woman of Tomorrow, which is being written by Ana Nogueira, has yet to hire a director.

It will definitely be fascinating to follow who ends up getting the Supergirl gig in Superman: Legacy. With Donnelly currently voicing Supergirl in the animated Tomorrowverse, it would be fun to see her make the transition to live-action as the Girl of Steel. Hopefully, the DC Universe’s new Supergirl will be confirmed and revealed in the coming weeks as Superman: Legacy gets the cameras rolling.
