Brenda Lafferty was born to her parents James Louis Wright and LaRae Wright on July 19, 1960 in Logan, Cache County, Utah. LaRae met the love of her life, James, at a church dance in Great Falls, MT, who had just returned from a church mission. They were married on June 6, 1958, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple in Salt Lake City, UT.
They spent a short time in Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX, then also moved to Logan, UT and Ithaca, NY.
Although Brenda’s family liked Allen at first, LaRae regretted her daughter marrying into the Lafferty family. Larae Wright said. “We just had no idea that the situation for the Lafferty family was so bad. It was a real shock to learn some of this stuff.”
In December 1991, during the trial, Brenda’s parents also expressed their frustration. LaRae said, “I think a new trial is just a waste of Utah taxpayer money.” “There is no question” that Ron Lafferty killed his daughter, she said.
Jim Wright had three words to describe his response to the verdict: disappointment, anger, and disgust.
“I think this will re-victimize the victims. There will be more pain, suffering, anxiety and worry,” she said. “It will be traumatic for my family. But I don’t expect it to be devastating.”
The years since Brenda’s death have been quiet for the Idaho family. “We’re doing great,” LaRae Wright said. “I think it’s because of our religious beliefs. We know that Brenda is okay and Erica is okay. We had to get on with our lives and we did.”
Brenda’s parents also lost contact with their son-in-law, Allen Lafferty, around 1987.

She had strong faith and a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.

Jim visits his daughter’s grave every week and told a KUTV reporter: “Erica was laid on Brenda’s chest like she was holding her. Here I find solace.” He has lived through the worst possible nightmare, but Jim’s faith is unshakable and he says, “It’s just a matter of everyday life and he can’t wait to see them again.”
