A WOMAN caused quite a stir by showing off her new hat thanks to a bewildering optical illusion.
Environmental designer and TikTok user Otelia Carmen shared a video of her new hat and it instantly went viral for the strange object that apparently changes color.

She said: “I bought this green hat in the store today and brought it home and when I took it out I thought: ‘Why is this brown?’
“That’s when it hit me: metamerism. That’s why lighting is so important in interior design.”
Metamerism is the color change seen in a colored object due to different spectral emissions from different light sources.
Basically, each light source has its own “color”, so when it is projected onto a colored surface, it affects the color of that surface.
In this case, we can see that in the lighting in the store, Othelia’s hat was green, but the lighting in her house makes it brown.
Even in his own home, the hat changed color from reddish-brown in the dining room to green in the bedroom.
He decided to take the hat out into the daylight to see once and for all what color it really is.
In this video, he showed that the hat is, in fact, brown.
The two videos garnered a total of 6 million views and commenters were wowed.
“So…it’s green, brown, red,” wrote one confused viewer, while another said: “I’m blown away.”
“Here we go again with ‘is the dress gold and white or black and blue,'” wrote one viewer, referring to the fabric color debate that shocked the world in 2017.
Another added: “My brain can’t figure out what’s going on here.”
