Patrick Xavier Clark, a suspect in the murder of rapper Migos Takeoff, has been arrested. He was arrested on December 1, 2022 at 7:32 p.m.
“He’s been charged with Takeoff’s murder,” Chief Troy Finner said at a news conference. Takeoff was filmed at a bowling party in Houston, Texas on November 1, 2022.
Click2Houston reported that Patrick planned to flee to Mexico with a large amount of cash. The document obtained by the media outlet explains: “The defendant fired a firearm into a crowd of people and hit the complainant in the back and head, killing him. In addition, the low bond is unreasonable and insufficient to guarantee the defendant’s appearance in court based on his successful attempts to issue a passport shortly after the murder and his immediate travel to Mexico.”
Following the news of Patrick’s arrest, the Daily Beast reported that the alleged killer was a popular strip club promoter named DJ Pat. According to the statement, Patrick “is a well-known local promoter, who ran a strip club and had a large social media presence.” He allegedly ran “The Flame HTX, a strip club that Clark regularly posted about on social media to his more than 20,000 followers.”
Rapper Jmali told the Daily Beast that he doesn’t think Clark is a violent person. “He could see from everyone’s reactions that we were surprised because this is not the type of person [Clark] it is,” Jmali told The Daily Beast. “…It was about work, not violence.”
Liftoff was filmed on November 1, 2022, early in the morning, according to TMZ, which was first to report the news. The sad news was later confirmed to The Associated Press by a Migos official. The entertainment news website posted a video of Quavo, a rapper with Migos, having a verbal altercation before the shooting began.
Takeoff watches from outside the group, but does not appear to be involved in the altercation. After talking about playing basketball, they fired approximately 10 rounds from two different firearms, according to TMZ.
Takeoff was found dead at the scene, just outside the front door, according to Houston Police Department Sgt. Michael Arrington, who spoke at a news conference. Two other people with non-life-threatening injuries independently attended local hospitals. They were a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman.
Employees said there was an “incident that occurred after the party ended.” It was a private party. When it was over, a large group of people gathered in front of the building. “This led to an argument, where there was a shooting due to a disagreement,” Heavy informed.
Many of those present fled the scene and police hope to call the Homicide Squad or Crime Stoppers to provide “any information” or videos.
“We’re looking for anything to help us,” Arrington said. “We want to find justice for this family. They’re going through a lot right now.”
TMZ based its report on law enforcement sources and multiple witnesses. According to TMZ, the shooting happened shortly after 2:30 a.m.
That’s when police “received a call about a man shot at a bowling alley called 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston,” TMZ reported. According to TMZ, Takeoff and Quavo were playing craps “when an argument broke out” and Takeoff was shot “either in the head or near the head.”
Police say Takeoff was not directly involved in the altercation, although Takeoff’s uncle and bandmate Quavo were seen arguing with others before the shooting. The rapper, whose real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball, was shot in the commotion and pronounced dead at the scene.
Cameron Joshua, who was charged with gun possession with Patrick, could cooperate as a witness in Patrick Xavier Clark’s prosecution. Joshua is believed to be one of dozens who were at the party at 810 Billiards & Bowling that night and watched the violence unfold.
Prosecutors are asking that if he is granted bail, he be placed under house arrest and prohibited from communicating with Shakur Stevenson staff, J. Prince Jr., and his family, as well as Takeoff’s family.
