Jenna Barbee is a teacher at Winding Waters School located in Hernando County, Florida, who treated her students to a motion picture suitable for all audiences, starring talented actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

The objective of this cinematic experience was to provide respite to the students after their arduous examination period. According to Barbie, all of her student’s parents or guardians gave them permission to participate in films rated for general audiences. Nevertheless, subsequent concerns were raised by a parent and school board member regarding the portrayal of an LGBTQ character in the aforementioned film.

A letter shared on Twitter by Barbee’s friend Carl Zee reveals that the Florida Department of Education has opened an investigation into the teacher for alleged “inappropriate conduct.” The letter further directs the persons to submit the same along with relevant evidence or testimony to the designated office within two weeks of receiving the letter.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, the person identified as the school board member involved in the case is Shannon Rodriguez. Barbee claims that Rodriguez has filed a complaint with the Department of Education, accusing her of allegedly plagiarizing.

Barbee is currently undergoing an investigation regarding possible violations of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ “Don’t Say Gay” law, which prohibits instruction on gender and sexual identity topics to students in public schools.

Nonetheless, Barbee has come forward to defend her choice of showcasing the PG-rated film, asserting that it encompassed educational material pertaining to earth science and ecosystems that directly correlated with her students’ curriculum.

Furthermore, she emphasized that the movie offered valuable social and emotional lessons, highlighting the significance of embracing diversity, promoting kindness, fostering effective communication, and pursuing one’s aspirations.
