Award-winning jewelry designer and Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Meredith Marks recently shared how she has put her mental health first after coming to a head in 2021. Meet Alex Ruttenberg, Meredith Marks’ nephew
After Meredith experienced a breaking point last year, she distanced herself from everything as she often does in such cases. In the late winter of 2021 she left Utah and didn’t return for another 5-6 months.
Because Meredith needed time and space to process everything that was happening, she fled to Provence, France, where she found her zen. Meredith said: “It has been a very spiritual journey for me. I left her. I just needed time to decompress and heal,” according to Page Six.
According to the RHOSLC star, her nephew Alex’s experience with substance abuse came along with his mental health issues. Alex went through a difficult period for a long time, but it culminated in 2021.
According to Meredith, Alex also went to different places for help. He even tried to kill himself, but luckily his family was there to save him.
Alex’s mental health problems are said to have started when he was much younger when his parents divorced and they decided to deal with maladaptive behaviors such as lying and abuse.
In 2021 alone, Alex went to rehab six times and at the time of this writing he was in control of his mind and feelings. He thinks: “Anyone who is willing to work for treatment deserves a chance. Not every day is perfect, but I still wake up and look forward to the next one.”
At the Fashion Week Meredith hosted in April 2022 in association with Park City Fashion Week, at the Salt Lake City Museum of Contemporary Art to benefit the ADR Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Alex and his mother, Myra Ruttenberg, Alex detailed his treacherous path to composure and stability.
The ADR Foundation was created to help other families go through the process of emotional recovery. “ADR’s goal is to help others in their struggles. My sister is really working right now to find the right facility to donate to,” Meredith said during fashion week.

Growing up, Myra felt the effects of the divorce on her parents and understands how challenging change can be for all parties involved. To cut a long story short, Mura has a great understanding of people and their emotional makeup. Her goal with the ADR Foundation is to provide hard-to-find resources while ensuring that the financial aspect does not prevent those in need from finding help.
