Wagner’s group controls key military installations in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. And after all, Yevgeny Prigozhin is said to have arrived in Belarus and thereby escaped the consequences.
Since the war between Russia and Ukraine began, Wagner’s group and the Russian military have had a strained relationship, including the exchange of defamatory statements and hostile actions between the two groups.
The substantial uprising was the result of Wagner’s group and the Russian military’s deployment in Ukraine.
At the start of the Russo-Ukrainian war, Russia was confident that it would achieve a quick military victory. However, it faced setbacks from the start. This prompted Russia to deploy the Wagner group to directly support its operations.

In 2022, unlike the Russian military, Wagner’s group appears to be a well-trained force. Not to be outdone, many of the early Russian victories were actually greatly aided by Wagner’s team, such as the Battle of Sievierodonetsk.
However, it would be wrong to say that these victories did not cost Russia and Wagner’s team dearly. Wagner’s group suffered heavy losses, to the point that they could not follow their traditional tactics. The situation became so tense that Wagner’s group launched a mass recruitment from Russian prisons to replenish depleted forces.
All of these efforts have resulted in two organizations with distinct spheres of influence now becoming conventional forces. Simply put, the areas of strength of the two groups now overlap.
