Generally speaking, many villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are judged by their looks combined with their overall personalities, which means there are some unpopular villagers who are actually great. Some villagers are exceptionally rude or snobby, but they still end up being high-tier characters because of their appearance or style. Other Animal Crossing villagers are beautifully hideous, and they’re kept off of most players’ islands to avoid having to see them every day. However, some of these ugly, shunned villagers are actually fun characters to have as residents on the island.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players can have up to 10 villagers living on their island with them. However, with nearly 400 villagers to choose from, it can be difficult deciding who to invite and who to stay away from. There are many popularity lists that point out who the so-called best villagers are in Animal Crossing. However, going only by which characters are popular can mean missing out on a great villager because they received a low-tier rating from the community.
While some of the lower-ranked villagers can be hidden gems, a lot of them deserve their spots. Cranky and snooty villagers are generally bad for island harmony in Animal Crossing, and there are a lot of them that can be hard to get rid of if they make it to a player’s island. There are plenty of villagers who will create drama or have rude things to say, so ranking them low is expected. Not all of the unpopular villagers are misjudged, but there are a few infamous characters that still have something to bring to the table in Animal Crossing.
Barold Can Be Funny In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Barold has a terrible reputation for being one of the ugliest villagers in Animal Crossing. His strange stubbly beard, prominent pink lips, and beady eyes don’t do him any favors in the popularity contest. However, Barold has a lazy personality, making him very laid back and easy to get along with. He’s also a good Animal Crossing villager to keep around for an island full of foodies. Barold will often talk about food and relaxing, and he’ll say some funny things like, “Please DO feed the bears!” While Barold’s appearance can take some getting used to, he can be an amusing villager to interact with, and he generally won’t start conflicts with others.
The other reason Barold may be unpopular is because of the interior of his home. He has a surveillance system for a house, and it can be a bit unsettling to imagine that Barold is spying on everyone on the island. That being said, his home is still a lot nicer than some of the other villagers’ designs. For example, Billy has stacks of paper everywhere and Jacob lives in piles of trash. Barold’s decorative choices may be a little strange, but at least his home is neat and polished.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has An Underrated Chicken Knight
Chickens are generally considered to be one of the worst Animal Crossing villager species, and Knox also has the cranky personality type, which makes him seem like the type of villager who’s best avoided. However, Knox is a medieval knight chicken with plenty of odd things to say. His cranky nature is balanced out by his fun attire, and once a friendship is established, Knox is much easier to get along with. Some of what he says can come across as condescending or rude, but such is the case with any cranky villager. For those that want a more scandalous island with a lot of drama, Knox can be a good villager to fill the cranky personality slot.
Even without the potential for drama, Knox has an interesting personality, some eye-opening stories, and a home that honors his medieval background. Knox’s home design in Animal Crossing looks like a fancy ancient tomb complete with four golden caskets and wallpaper that mimics columns lining the walls. If players interact with a casket while visiting Knox in his home, he may mention that he sleeps in them. Knox is a surprisingly intriguing chicken with an atypical home design, and inviting him to the island creates the potential for some entertaining conversations.
Octavian Is Cranky But Interesting In Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Although Octavian’s looks match his cranky personality, he can be an interesting resident to add to the island. Like all cranky villagers, Octavian will take some extra work to warm up to. Once a friendship is established, Octavian will be a little less rude and have a bigger variety of responses when spoken to. Octavian is a great villager in Animal Crossing to have for players that want a bit of a troublemaker that’s also pretty unique. There are only four Octopus villagers in the game, and while Octavian isn’t the most liked character of his species, he’s not one players should pass up.
Octavian’s harsh truths, rumors, and overall cranky personality are offset by his aesthetically pleasing space-themed home. There are other space-loving villagers to choose from, but Octavian brings along his unqiue species and personality. Unlike some of the more popular villagers, Octavian’s combination of personality, species, and home design is one of a kind, making him a great addition to any island coveting rare villagers.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Buck Is More Than He Appears
Buck is a horse with an unappealing green color and eyebrows at least three times the size of his actual eyes. Although Buck may physically appear to fit the cranky villager type, he actually has the jock personality in Animal Crossing. Buck will constantly be active, as well as encourage players to excercise and compliment their muscles. He’s easy to get along with and doesn’t usually stir up trouble, but he’s less likely to get along with lazy villagers. Buck’s aspiration to be a basketball player and his jock personality make him a great addition to any island with a sports or activeness theme.
The thing that sets Buck apart from the other jock villagers is his vibrant home, which doesn’t have one piece of workout or sports equipment. Instead, Buck has a colorful home with a shelf full of books, a flatscreen television, and a fall-themed train set. Buck’s home suggests that, despite his jock traits, he also enjoys some television and a lot of reading. The calm, yet pretty setup of Buck’s home clashes with his personality in Animal Crossing – a good way making him a well-rounded villager that can be fun to have as a resident. While Buck and the other villagers aren’t considered to be the best characters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, they can still be a lot of fun and are worth giving the chance to become residents.
