Trugoy the Dove, a famous rapper and member of De La Soul, has died at the age of 54. On social media, several celebrities have expressed their condolences to Trugoy, alias David Jolicoeur. Comedian Eric Schwartz posted a photo of David on Facebook with the caption:
“For years, De La Soul has fought to regain the rights to their songs. Trugoy pigeons, nicknamed Dave, died just like them. De La Soul was a creative force that revolutionized people’s perception of what “rap” could be. A great pioneer and icon. Thank you very much, Plug 2.
Quest Green, a motivational speaker, also shared her sadness on Facebook, writing:
“Dude… I am heartbroken to lose a dear brother. David Jode Jolicoeur, aka Plug Two, or Trugoy the Dove of De La Soul… Thank you for the music, but so much more for the memories. #delaforlife #dematlantadayzandnights.”
Although his cause of death has not been confirmed, Trugoy has previously talked about his health problems, especially congestive heart failure.

Trugoy has long struggled with congestive heart disease, which has hampered his career as he had to miss most of his De La Soul concerts. Trugoy opened up about his heart failure in the music video for De La Soul’s debut hit, Royalty Capes, in 2017.
David appears in the film at his home in suburban Maryland, where he talks about his life and what it feels like to live with a vest that protects him from congestive heart failure. David describes the life jacket in the video as a mechanism that will shock him and bring him back “from the matrix”. He added that he can’t wait to get back on stage and that he misses traveling and performing.

Golub Trugoy was born on September 21, 1968 in East Massapequa, New York. De La Soul was founded in 1988, and the other members are Vincent Mason and Kelvin Mercer, all of whom attended the same high school. While De La Soul is known for his songs, Trugoy the Dove also performed an Award Tour single with A Tribe Called Quest. 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul’s first album, was released in 1989.
