The Avengers Officially Recruit Galactus, Their Strongest Member Ever

Warning: Spoilers for Avengers #66 The Avengers have many strong members, but none can match their newest rookie: Galactus. In a shocking twist, Galactus joins Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the final battle against Mephisto and Doom-Prince for the fate of the multiverse.

Detachment of revenge #66, by Jason Aaron, Javier Garrôn, David Curiel, Merry Hollowel I, Erick Arciniega, and Rachelle Rosenberg, shows Avenger Prime (a version of Loki) fighting between Avengers gathered from all worlds in the final stages of the multiverse and their enemies, the Doom Supreme and his Doom Army and the Earth’s Mephisto-616, who killed and absorbed all other versions of himself, growing to scale and colossal strength. Fortunately, Avenger Prime called in his strongest support force. Thought to have gone missing on a perilous time travel mission, Ka-Zar returned to Power Cosmic and brought with him his new master, Galactus himself, who was immediately declared the honorary Avenger.

Ka-Zar returned to help the Avengers, he brought Galactus

Ka-Zar was last seen on Detachment of revenge #50, as he travels through time and space on behalf of the Avengers to chart the history of Earth’s successor forces. He is captured by Mephisto’s bodyguard, Iron Inquisitor (Howard Stark), and stranded on Earth, ready to be destroyed by Galactus. As it turns out, Khazar was able to strike a deal with the Eater of Worlds, becoming his new emissary. Then he made a promise to Galactus”eat once in a lifetime‘ and take him to the battlefield at God’s Quarry, where Khajar’s new owner will likely enjoy Planet Doom, a planet-sized version of Doom ravaging the Avengers’ armies.

Galactus is officially the Honorary Avenger

Marvel Snap Galactus Art for cards The Universe is about to eat the world

More than an unlikely ally, Galactus was officially declared an honorary Avenger, and he even appeared in the issue’s final panel, an introductory page with the words “Avengers Assemble!” crying battle. This choice matches the tone that author Jason Aaron has set for his Ultimate Avengers story. This long story of the Multiverse almost continuously tries to start from scratch, with each chapter making the stakes and cast of characters bigger and more impressive. As proof, with the arrival of Mount Avenger, only a page after Galactus, a cosmic Avenger is introduced, a celestial body activated by Deathlok’s mind.

Announcing Galactus as an honorary Avenger seems like a cheap way to create a powerful moment in the story, and some purists are sure to lift their noses about it. However, this is now part of the official Marvel standard, and from this point forward, every Avengers history book must credit Galactus as one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
