Fireworks were mistakenly fired into the crowd at around 7pm.

Flares flew into a baby’s pram which led to a mum flinging it out with her own hands to save her child, according to a witness.

A private medical team employed by the Stone Cricket Club were on hand to tackle the burns and blisters caused to the crowd.

It is understood around six people were affected as surrounding families and onlookers scattered.

One reveller told StokeonTrentLive: “A firework went off into the crowd and a load of people ran away.

“I heard an announcement made that they were asking for a first aider and I was told that six people were hit by fireworks.

“The fireworks later resumed.”

A terrified dad attending the disastrous display also claimed: “It hit the family standing right beside us.

“We felt the heat as it came into us. My son’s hood is singed.”

While a mum-of-two alleged the rocket misfired so close to her she was forced to “throw” her horrified daughter out of firing line.

Commenting on Facebook page, one stunned guest penned: “It came right at myself, my two children and my other half, I had to throw my daughter.

“We left after it happened, hope everyone else was okay.”

They added: “It was dangerous so we left immediately.”

Meanwhile another visitor agreed the ordeal was “terrifying” as families were running for safety with their kids.

“We left as the fireworks started firing into the crowd obviously,” agreed another fuming attendee.

One guest told The Sun Online: “We were there, it was horrifying to see the fireworks going off into the crowd.

“I took my family, hubby and boys aged 14 and 11, to the event.

“7pm came and we moved from inside the cricket clubhouse to the railings for a good view, the event was roped off and the crowd were well back, there were a few thousand there, the ground was big, and the fireworks went off for a few minutes, about 10 minutes max.

“There were at least two fireworks then that went into the crowd, one went to our left, near the main path, and then another set were let off – I assume computer programmed, and maybe could not be stopped?

“There was an announcement for a first aider, and we assumed that that would be the end of the display, having clearly got into the crowd and hit someone, because people were clearing out of the way.

“At that point there are no more fireworks and we decided to leave, a lot of people were doing the same, walking very determinedly away.

“It definitely seemed like it was over.

“We had a decent walk back to the car and just as we got there saw that the fireworks had begun again.

“We thought that perhaps no one was hurt, but it seems like I was wrong.

“I’m shaken, I know the boys were, and to be honest what was meant to be a fun night out, and accessible for my husband, who is mobility disabled, turned to be disappointing for us, and clearly not great for those injured either.

“The ground was rather muddy underfoot, so I wonder whether the fireworks had slipped off a stand or something, they seemed to tip over quickly to our left and no one stopped them.

“I personally am still rather in shock.”

Stone Swynnerton Park Cricket Club confirmed a “briefing” was bring held.

So far no one has been available for comment.

Staffordshire Police said they were not called out to the incident.
