Schools in Kerala to close on July 18, 2023
Kerala closes schools: The state of Kerala declared a public holiday for schools and colleges today, July 18, 2023, in memory of the death of former state minister Oommen Chandy. The holiday was announced by the state government following news of the former CM’s death in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to the report, all government offices and educational institutions, including professional colleges, will remain closed for today. The country also declared two days of mourning for the death of the former prime minister. His son announced his departure.
Oommen Chandy was twice the Prime Minister of Kerala and leader of the National Assembly. The minister died at the age of 79.
The state government also released an official tweet announcing holidays and two days of mourning following the former premier’s death.

MG Kottayam University cancels exams
Due to the death of former CM Oommen Chandy, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam has also canceled all schedules for today, July 18, 2023.
About former CM Oommen Chandy
Oomen Chandy was a two-time Minister of Kerala elected from the Puthupally constituency from 1970 to 2021. He served as MLA for 53 years. The former CM sought cancer treatment at HCG Hospital in Bengaluru and was taken to Chinmaya Mission Hospital after he fell ill. CM’s funeral will be held in Puthupally today.
