Minister of State for Water Supply of Sri Lanka, Sanath Nishantha, and his personal security officer passed away in a collision on the Katunayake Expressway on 25 January 2024.
They both are in the SUV which collided with a container truck while heading from Katunayake to Colombo. Sanath’s vehicle had crashed against the roadside barrier before rear-ending a moving truck around 2:00 am on 25 January 2024.
Sanath and his PSO were rushed to the Colombo North Teaching Hospital in Ragama with critical injuries. At the hospital, they passed away whereas the driver of the vehicle is receiving medical attention at the hospital.
Sanath was returning from a wedding ceremony which was held at a hotel in Bandarawatta, Chilaw last night. Sanath is survived by his wife Attorney-at-Law Chamari Perera and their three daughters and a son.
