We are finally releasing the latest final fantasy XIV boss battle theme, Ruby Weapon is here to finish what Ultima Weapon started in 2.0 and features a tribute to the long expansion final fantasy 7. We’ve had plenty of Ultima prototypes and bad knockoffs on the stage since those climactic moments in the base game, but Ruby Weapon is on another level.
You can fight him on both normal story difficulty and Savage mode. But since you’ll need to complete this fight to progress through the main story, this guide focuses on the normal difficulty version for those who are feeling a little itchy going into this massive, explosive battle. If you don’t want the other half of him spoiled, we suggest you go back and go in blind. There’s no way you’re going to pass up one of the best fan services in the game.
Stage 1 – Ruby Weapon
Like any good boss fight, Ruby Weapon introduces you to its two basic attacks: Stamp (destroy tanks) and Optimized Ultima (raid-wide blast). Remember these.
Soon after, Ruby Weapon uses the Flexiclaw, the same claws that the NPCs described in the previous scenes. They dig into the ground leaving a raised pattern behind. Ravensclaw, channeling at the same time, results in large circular spiked discharges emanating from the top of each of these fissures. Be sure to position yourself as far away from them as possible before the cast is set. Then position yourself in one of the crevices to avoid dying from the quicksand caused by the liquefaction right after. Dodge the linear Ruby Ray, survive another Optimized Ultima Blast, and prepare for another round of claws.
This time Flexiclaw follows Helioclaw. This is shown as three red lines coming out of the Ruby Weapon in the arena. The explosions will follow these paths, so sit evenly between the two lines to avoid overlapping. Stack the tags and then target both healers, so be ready to split the team to sink them. Right after, Ravensflight draws an arrow trajectory for Ruby Weapon to fall down at high speed. Record your trajectory and avoid being crushed.
Don’t worry if you see the guide lasers disappear soon after. These projectiles only launch a Ruby weapon using Ruby Dynamics, which is pointed when fired at the edge of the arena for a wide slit attack. Just hug your leg to avoid it and split up to avoid overlapping from the incoming lasers. Immediately after comes another optimized Ultima, so healers will need to pay close attention here. Before you basically loop until you run out of HP, there’s an example where Flexiclaw’s rifts fully explode after Ravensclaw. It’s nothing major, but it’s a new problem to deal with. He will then try another Flex/Helium combo before hitting old ground. Destroy it before doing an extensive Optimized Ultima run and you’ll advance to the second stage.
Phase 2 – Nael deus Darnus
If you completed the attack “The Binding Coil of Bahamut: Turn 9” (or T9 for most), you’ll have an essence to look out for when Nael (or something based on it) comes out of Ruby Weapon for the last time. Live. Now that you’re here, you’ll be back to this stage after a group wipe, so don’t worry about a little mistake costing you a lot of time.
Nael loves meteors. That was his thing. Dalamud was like a child to her, and he wants nothing more than to smash you with a meteor. She will immediately launch Project Meteor, marking the beginning of the first of three cycles.
Meteor Project #1
Meteor Project maxes out its “Dalamud Reborn” meter. In this first loop, start by summoning two “Raven’s Image” mobs. The tanks take them as the DPS prepares to split up for some Meteor Stream fast dive bombs. Whoever has a mob on them (hopefully tanks) will get backstabbed five times for moderate damage before another Meteor Stream hits the DPS again.
This sequence continues until both figures are dead, at which point the gauge empties and the Dalamud falls in the distance, dealing damage to the entire raid as heat and debris flood the area.
Meteor Project #2
Nael then launches Project Meteor a second time. With the meter now at max again, Nael (Ruby Weapon) casts Magitek Comet/Meteor. He just runs to the edges to avoid more damage from the falling comet and blocks the boss’s view by cowering behind one to avoid the meteor falling in the center. Light things.
Next up is the cast Mark II Magitek Comet. The four players follow the path of the meteor on the ground until it lights up, which then stuns all four players as they try to stop the comet from falling. They periodically damage the holder until destroyed. It’s not too strict, but tanks and healers should take meteors while DPS works together to free both healers as soon as possible. Dalamud goes down once more when this ends, so additional healing will be required.
Meteor Project #3
The third cycle of the Meteor project is the last. If you can’t finish the fight before Dalamud goes down, it’s a wipe. Fortunately, it’s a pretty simple DPS check. The only thing you will have to deal with is full attack lingering damage and a few more Meteor Stream Dive Bombs.
Everything here is timed down to the last second, so there’s a strict 3-2-3 sequence of events to make things easier. That’s three casts of Outrage (Nael’s full attack power attack), two attacks of Meteor Stream, and three more casts of Outrage. Casting Outrage takes five seconds. Since Dalamud starts his 15 seconds of decent play when Outrage’s second (and last) combo comes out, it means it’s game over if Nael doesn’t kick the bucket by the end of this sequence.
And that is! Too many kills on the way to this will leave Nael with plenty of HP for his third and final drop on Dalamuda. But once the team gets the hang of things, you should be able to kill her pretty early in phase three without too much effort.
