A new look at Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire has arrived. The upcoming Zack Snyder Netflix movie is a science fiction epic that will be followed four months later by the sequel Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver. The movies will follow Kora (Sofia Boutella), a former Imperium leader who has turned against the army controlled by the corrupt Mother World and travels the galaxy to gather a team of warriors able to fight back against the regime.

As part of Geeked Week 2023, Netflix unveiled a new trailer for the movie more than a month ahead of the Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire release date. Check it out below:

The trailer opens with a quiet character moment for Kora, explaining that she was found in the wreckage of a ship before her redemption. However, the portentous arrival of a ship brings a dangerous enemy who wants “everything.” Thus kicks off a conflict between a peaceful farming community and the forces led by Admiral Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein), full of intense confrontations and high-octane action.

New Rebel Moon Trailer Goes A Long Way To Igniting Quick Fan Passion (Because It Needs To)

As the release date approaches, hype needs to be built around the Rebel Moon movies as much as possible. In addition to opening the franchise with a pair of movie releases, there are plans to erect a wider, larger universe around those titles. This already includes a prequel comic book series, an animated show, and a narrative podcast that all explore the mythology of the overarching universe.

Zack Snyder has also revealed that Rebel Moon takes place in the same universe as his previous Netflix movie Army of the Dead.

Having enough success to support this many spinoffs is a tall order for any original property. Snyder does have a strong fanbase, as proven by the successful campaign for Warner Bros. to give the director additional funds to restore his vision for the 2017 movie Justice League. However, the only other movies the director has helmed that weren’t based on a pre-existing movie, book, or comic have been Sucker Punch, (which is his lowest-grossing movie) and Army of the Dead (which has already had a spinoff series canceled by Netflix).

However, this Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire trailer showcases just how much epic science fiction mayhem Snyder is hoping to work into just one single part of this universe. The above video plays up the action considerably, and reveals deeper looks at characters such as Kora and Charlie Hunnam’s Kai. These trailers could help ignite the necessary fan interest, which will also be helped out by the fact that the Rebel Moon cast can promote the movie following the end of the Screen Actors Guild strike. However, it remains to be seen how the dual releases perform and if they can sustain such a wide-ranging franchise immediately out of the gate.
