Rachel Morin was reported missing on 5 August and now has been found dead.
Although the exact cause of her death is not public yet, authorities claimed that she was a victim of violent homicide. In an interview with local TV, the former national park search and rescue officer who claimed to have assisted in the discovery of Rachel Morin’s body a day after the Maryland mother-of-five vanished from a pedestrian route in Bel Air described the murder as “brutal.”
In Bel Air, close to the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail, where the 37-year-old mother was last seen jogging on Saturday night, Michael Gabriszeski and his stepdaughter volunteered to assist in the hunt for Morin on Sunday. “I told my stepdaughter … ‘She’s not going to be laying out in the open. She’s going to be tucked away,’” Michael told FOX 45 Baltimore.
“I saw a terrible mess,” he told the outlet. “There’s not going to be an open casket, I can guarantee you that.”
“It was more than obviously apparent to police officers and our detectives who came up that this was not an accidental injury — somebody out exercising who’s fallen down and sustained a fatal injury,” Sherrif David said. “This was not something that was self-inflicted. … This was the action of one or more persons who took her life in a criminal homicide — an egregious, horrific act in what is very otherwise … a very, very safe area.”
Rachel shared a post in February that read: “Risk can be dangerous, but routine can be deadly. Comfort has killed more dreams than daring ever did.”
The victim was a mother of five, as her GoFundMe stated. Unfortunately, there is no information about her ex-husband or the baby father.
The first to get accused of the involvement was, of course, the boyfriend, Richard Tobin. However, he has denied all the accusations where he claimed that he would “never do anything to her”. “Yes I have a past but I also have 15 months clean and have changed as a person. Please,” Mr Tobin wrote on Facebook.
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said that the boyfriend has been interviewed.

He was not more specific about his past. According to The New York Post, Tobin has a history of “two arrests for criminal second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property, drug possession, and violating restraining orders.” The Post added: “The 20 charges previously filed against him in Maryland also include resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication.”
On her Facebook page, Rachel wrote that she was in a relationship with Richard Tobin. “Only started taking pics a few weeks ago.. but these are a few of my favorites. From the beach to the mountains 🥰,” she wrote on August 3, 2023, two days before disappearing.

“We just need time… I need time. It’s only been 4 days since we received the terrible news. I ask you as mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters to have compassion for us and allow us to do so. ‘
Rebekah Morin began the letter by thanking people for the “outpouring of love and support” and “the global community grieving with me for my young daughter.”
She also noted that the family is planning a “celebration of life” service and a 5K walk/run in her honor, as Rachel was an “enthusiastic runner.”
