Pop Smoke grew up lower middle class. Many rappers grow up in extreme poverty; however, Pop Smoke grew up on the relatively nicer side of Brooklyn in Canarsie. That’s not to say he was rich by any means, but he wasn’t as poor as other rappers you typically hear about. He was not involved in any gang activity either as far as we know. However, that doesn’t take away from his music and achievements in any way.
How did Pop Smoke die?
Pop Smoke, unfortunately, died via fatal gunshot wound during an armed robbery with five men involved on February 19, 2020. It is suspected that the robbers targeted him because he had posted Instagram photos that revealed the exact address where he was staying at the time in Hollywood Hills. He had also posted some photos of large sums of money and possessions of value. He was shot on the second-story balcony and died almost immediately. Half a year later, suspects were brought in including three adult males and two minors, and they were all charged with murder and/or robbery in their respective courts.
