Peace Anyiam Osigwe Wiki

Peace Anyiam Osigwe was a Nigerian filmmaker and entertainment executive. She has been called the queen of Nollywood films. She founded a globally acclaimed film ceremony Africa Movie Academy Awards.

She was the woman who take the first step toward the screening of Nollywood films at international film festivals. She directed the first music video of P-Square.

She was selected as a member of the Order of the Federal Republic in 2012 by the Nigerian government for her contribution to the entertainment industry. She was a TED fellow.

Peace Anyiam Osigwe was born on 30 March to African Sage Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe (Father) and Dorothy Chinyere Anyiam Osigwe (Mother) in Nkwerre, Imo, Nigeria but her birth year is not given anywhere so it is difficult to tell her age.

Her mother is a recipient of the Officer of the Order of the NIger honor for her Philanthropic activities in Nigeria.

She had 7 brothers including Michael who was killed in 2014. He was the coordinator general of the Osigwe Anyiam Osigwe Foundation.

Michael was also a director, the consul general of Malawi to Nigeria, and the Africa Institute for Leadership Research and Development.

She completed her law and political science degree from Oxford Brookes University. Her religion and zodiac sign are not known. After being graduated, she founded The Africa Film Academy.

The Award ceremony is the most recognized award for Africans in film-making. She resigned as CEO of the AMAAs at the 10th edition.

She started the AfricaOne initiative in 2015 to commemorate Africans in the entertainment industry.

She became the National President of The Association of Movie Producers in 2020 which made her the 7th to hold that post succeeding Mr. Ralph Nwadike.

She was the Initiator of the 100 films project and her aim was the improving the quality of films produced in Nigeria.

She worked on building the capacity of film producers in the country as the president through seminars and training.

As an author, she published a magazine “Cliks” which was written to accommodate the black population in England. She started her tv career with her discussion show, Piece off my mind.

This show focuses on people’s reactions to societal issues. She discussed the African caste system, child trafficking, and women’s equality in film and television. She was regarded with African Film Pioneer Award in 2019 at the African Film Festival.

Peace Anyiam was married but later she separated from her husband.

She passed away at St. Nicolas Hospital in Lagos on 9 January 2023 after falling into a coma on 7 January 2023.

Her family confirmed her death news. The family said in a statement,

“The Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe clan in thanksgiving to God and in the belief that God is good and everything He does is good and in accordance with His divine will, pattern and plan, announce the passing to the eternal glory of our illustrious beloved daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt, Ms. Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe (MFR).”

Nollywood filmmaker Zik Zulu wrote,

“Our President, Peace, has passed. As of Saturday, she was reported to be in a coma at Saint Nicholas. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Peace.”
