Bert Campaneris is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player who was born Cuban-American on March 9, 1942. He played for four American League (AL) teams, primarily the Kansas City/Oakland Athletics. He had a distinguished 20-year major league career that included six All-Star selections, six American League crowns and a starring role in the Oakland Athletics’ three world championships in the 1970s.
His father worked as a factory technician. Bert had four sisters and three brothers. He went to the José Tomás Pueblo Nuevo school.
He played baseball exclusively, although he possessed exceptional speed and quickness. At the age of 11, he pitched in the Cuban Little League and later played catcher on a semi-pro team. He claimed to have such a passion for baseball that he even helped out as an outfielder.
Bert holds the A’s franchise records for career games played (1,795), hits (1,882) and at-bats (7,180). He was a key member of the A’s championship team from 1972 to 1974. Between 1965 and 1972, Bert led the American League in stolen bases six times and retired with the seventh-highest total in MLB history (649). His career total as shortstop ranks among the all-time MLB leaders in games played (5th, 2,097) and double plays (7th, 1,186) at the position.

Evelyn Campaneris was born into a farming family in a small town in Ireland. She lost her mother at the age of 4 and was raised by nuns in an Irish convent. Despite growing up in a small town, she decided to travel the world at the age of 21. And when she was 25, she Evelyn had visited the seven continents of the world.
