Meet John Bean, husband of Litzi Botello
National Geographic arc protection documented the lives of people living in Alaska’s harsh climate and topography. Although the life they lived seemed fun and achievable, life in the wild certainly isn’t easy. The show, which first aired in 2015, is in its fifth season.
Litzi Botello and her husband John Bean were one of the couples who lived their lives in Port Protection. They met when Litzi was in her early 20s, and she met John while living in Los Angeles. The couple shared their wedding vows in May 2000 and decided to travel to Alaska, where they would spend the rest of their lives.
John and Litzi have been happily married ever since.
Litzi, who was a one-armed Mexican woman, was skilled and survived harbor protection for more than 40 years. She loved to create Fimo art.
Unfortunately, Litzi Botello has passed away. Fans have noticed his disappearance at recent shows without even knowing of his death. In a Facebook group, a fan asked about Litza and said: “I missed seeing her. I love to see her fish fillet ”. Litza’s husband, John, responded that his wife had died of ovarian cancer.
He reportedly passed away on June 25, 2021 at the age of 62.
Her family added that she “enjoyed brushing her hair and just walking on the beach; listen to good music, especially live music; talk to strangers; travels with her husband in her truck; support women in any way possible; spread love.”
Before her death, Litzi also lost her good friend Gary Muehlberger, whom she had known for 40 years. John opened with the comment that Gary died three months before Litzi. On that fateful day when she lost her friend, Litzi visited her doctor to be operated on for ovarian cancer.

John Bean and Litzi Botello had two children: Jhonny Duarte Botello and Leland Caulder Botello Bean. His eldest child, Leland, was born on June 26, 1991, while his youngest child, Jhonny, was born on June 28, 1996.
Before his wife’s death, John also had to endure the pain of losing his two children to unnatural causes. His eldest child, Leland, passed away on July 10, 2017. However, the reason for Leland’s death is a mystery. He lost his youngest son, Jhonny, in an accident with a logging truck.
Jhonny suffered a brain injury, multiple fractures to his left femur, a fractured jaw, along with multiple scrapes and scrapes.
Additionally, doctors placed Jhonny in a medically induced coma to perform a cerebral angiogram to determine the extent of the brain injury. He was a college graduate who graduated in 2014. He also knew the carpentry trade and was hired as a permanent employee.
Litzi wrote on her blog for Mother’s Day 2019: “My two sons have always tried to get me to walk more. Both were avid hikers and hunters.”
The pain of losing all the family members must be unimaginable for John.

John Bean comes from Minnesota. He is the son of Robert Sutherland Bean and his wife Diane Bean. His parents were married in 1948 in Minneapolis and in 1955 they moved to Duluth.
