Jared Lorenzen News

Jared Lorenzen, a former NFL quarterback, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 38 after suffering from renal, heart, and infection problems, according to his family.

The family of the former New York Giants back-up quarterback announced in a statement on Wednesday that they were “deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jared today.” Please remember Jared’s family, particularly his children, in your prayers.

Before turning pro, Lorenzen spent four seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats. With 10,354 career throwing yards, he held the Wildcats record. From 2006 to 2007, he was the Giants’ backup quarterback.

A fractured leg ultimately put an end to Lorenzen’s career as a football player, which he last did with the Northern Kentucky River Monsters of the Continental Indoor Football League.

An earlier statement read, “On Friday, June 28, Jared began playing a bigger, more significant game than he’s ever played. For a few weeks, Jared had been unwell, and that eventually caught up with him. After being taken to the hospital, he was promptly put to the intensive care unit.

Jared is coping with renal, heart, and infection problems. His immediate family is supporting him while he fights with everything he has.

His family stated earlier this week that his treatment “has been effective.”

“Jared’s overnight was uneventful and that is a good thing,” the family said in a statement to Kentucky Sports Radio on Tuesday. “He still receives dialysis. He keeps standing his ground. Although his medication has been effective, his cardiac and renal concerns still exist. Jared is still quite unwell, but he is making progress and is a warrior. The entire family appreciates your prayers and support.
