Holly Willoughby heals rift with Phil Schofield as he reaches out to offer support over ‘kidnap and murder plot’ ordeal

HOLLY Willoughby has healed the rift with Phillip Schofield after he reached out to offer support following the alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.

Holly, 42, was put under round-the-clock police protection after the alarm was raised moments before she was due to present This Morning on Thursday.

Sources close to Phil, who she co-hosted the ITV show with for 14 years, said he was sickened by the allegations.

The 61-year-old is said to have reached out to his former best pal for the first time in months, the Sunday Mirror reports.

The pair had not spoken since Phil was booted off ITV’s flagship show for lying about an affair with a younger employee.

But Holly has welcomed the approach – with a source telling The Sun she was “really happy” to bury the hatchet.

A source close to Holly told The Sun on Sunday: “Despite stories about them having a feud – Holly had reached out to Phil because she was concerned about the toll his departure from ITV had taken on him.

“He has now reached out to her after hearing about the incident. She was really happy to hear from him.”

The pair’s close friendship was broken after Phil confessed to lying about having an affair with a young employee and quit the long-running daytime ITV show.

It’s thought Holly had reached out to him during the fallout and voiced her concerns but it is believed the pair had no further contact.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Holly and Phil’s friendship was so close before the events of this year. Phil’s decision to reach out, and the welcome it has been received with by Holly, shows that there is still a bond there.”

The source added: “The hope is they can regain some of the ground lost, and support each other again.”

The reconciliation comes after Holly was put on “indefinite leave” from This Morning in the wake of the alleged plot.

Holly has been under round-the-clock surveillance since details of the alleged plot emerged.

Police officers have been stationed outside the London home she shares with husband Dan Baldwin and their three children.

ITV are also understood to be providing security and support.

She was left “shocked and distraught” and it was decided she should pull out of the show.

Gavin Plumb, 36, yesterday appeared in court after police swooped on his Essex home earlier this week.

Chelmsford Magistrates Court heard on Friday that Plumb, from Harlow, Essex, had allegedly put together a plan to kidnap and kill the TV star.

Officers were understood to have found chloroform, cable ties, a blindfold and ropes at Plumb’s home when they raided it.

They believed this could have been part of a “kidnap and restraint kit”.

It emerged cops also believe Plumb tried to recruit a hitman in the US to carry out the plot.

After swooping on Plumb’s home, police charged him with soliciting to commit murder and incitement to commit kidnap.

Plumb spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, address and where he worked when he appeared in court.

He was denied bail by district judge Caroline Jackson and will appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on November 3.

Bosses at This Morning were alerted to the alleged plot on Thursday morning and the presenter decided to pull out shortly before she was due on air.

On the show yesterday, regular Friday presenter Dermot O’Leary said: “We are not going to talk too much about it but Holly is on the front pages after police arrested a 36-year-old man over an alleged kidnap plot.”

The source told the paper: “Phil was absolutely horrified to hear she had been allegedly targeted in such a sickening way and decided to reach out to her, in spite of their lack of contact.

“He wanted her to know he was thinking of her and her family. They’ve so much history, and this is something you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy.”

Tension between the daytime TV stars grew in May after Phil released a statement describing her as his “rock”, while admitting the past few weeks “had not been easy for either of us”.

Days later Phil announced he was stepping down from the show, and issued a grovelling apology for lying to his employers, colleagues, friends and management company about his “unwise but not illegal” affair.

In response, Holly took to her Instagram page to write: “When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil if it was true and was told it was not. It’s been very hurtful to now find out this was a lie.”
