Some activities we do all the time in games wouldn’t make much sense in the wizarding world. Hogwarts Legacy. Let’s take unlocking as an example. For those familiar with the franchise, you will know of a simple spell that automatically opens (almost) all locks with a wave of the wand. While that sounds incredibly cool, it wouldn’t be very fun to play. Instead, that spell triggers an unlock minigame that you have to complete to get through that door or open that chest. These mini-games can be tricky, so here’s how they work so you can overcome any obstacles in your way.
How unlocking works
Casting an unlock spell is just the beginning of the unlock. Once you do, the real game begins. This is how it works in detail.
Step 1: Learn the Alohamor spell by playing the main story quest called “The Caretaker’s Moon Lament”.
Step 2: This will allow you to unlock at level 1.
Step 3: Find a lock on the level you can choose and cast the spell.
Step 4: Use the left and right joysticks to control the two colored sparks on the screen. The left stick controls the green light and will also rotate the outer circle, while the right stick moves the red light and will rotate the inner circle.
Step 5 – Try to move the outer ring to the point where the gears in the bottom right corner of the screen start to turn and hold it there.
Step 6: Repeat the process with the inner ring, this time looking for the gears in the middle of the lock to turn.
Step 7: Once you find the correct orientation for both sticks, the lock will open.
Step 8: Unlike every other spell in the game, Alohamora cannot be upgraded using only talents. To get to levels two and three, you’ll need to take the Demiguise statues to Galdwin Moon to complete a side quest called “The Man Beyond the Moon.” When you bring back nine statues, you’ll get level two, and when you turn in 22, you’ll reach level three.
