It looks like Harley Quinn has the best Batsuit already lined up for when she’s ready to join the Bat-Family for good. Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: Legion of Bats! #3 reveals Harley’s low-key, do-it-yourself Batsuit, and it’s the perfect outfit for her.
Harley Quinn might have gotten her start as a villainous sidekick to the Joker, but she’s began flirting with the notion of being a hero. After ditching the Clown Prince of Crime for good, Harley’s done a bit of self-exploration, and it’s landed her in the company of legit superheroes. Harley has gained membership on the Justice League and surprisingly fought in the name of good longer than many may have thought she would. While she still mostly operates on her own, she’s become an on again/off again ally to the Bat-Family, and it’s not that crazy to suggest she could become a permanent addition.
And when the day comes that Harley is officially invited to join the Bat-Family, she already has a costume to help her fit right in. Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: Legion of Bats! #3 by Tee Franklin and Jon Mikel follows series’ third season and sees Harley become an official member of the Bat-Family. With much of Gotham’s criminal territory up for grabs, Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, is making a power play. He attempts to seize control by taking Mayor Joker hostage until he formally declares Black Mask as Gotham’s new crime lord. With a new opportunity to demonstrate her skills in crime-fighting, Harley and the Bat-Family race to city hall to stop Black Mask and rescue the Joker. Going by the name ‘Red Bat’, Harley bursts onto the scene with a new costume, handmade from a shower curtain and an old Catwoman suit.
Harley’s Red Bat Costume Is So On-Brand For Her
Needless to say, the overall quality of Harley Quinn’s new costume isn’t great, but it’s something most of her fans may expect from her. After all, it’s got her usual red and black color scheme and comes with her own utility belt full of weapons. It’s also pretty functional and stylish, opting for sneakers instead of heavy combat boots. And a bat-themed shower curtain might not be much for protection, but its farcical nature speaks to Harley’s natural cutup tendencies.
In some ways, the rough-looking Batsuit encapsulates Harley’s journey to heroism. Is her costume perfect or as professional as the Bat-Family? No, but it shows that she’s trying, just like Harley Quinn’s heroic endeavors. Sure, an old Catwoman suit with a shower curtain might not be the greatest Batsuit ever created, but Harley admits it’s a work-in-progress, much like her. It shows that she isn’t taking the chance that the Bat-Family is extending her lightly and that she can fit into the team without sacrificing what makes Harley Harley.
