Guide to Insert Cent Symbol on Windows, Word, Mac, and Smartphones

We are all very familiar with the dollar sign ($), and we are even drawn to it when it comes with a number. But did you notice that the little coin symbol (¢) is also part of the US currency? Coin Icons – Brief Introduction

A cent is a unit of currency in many national currencies, including the United States, and represents 1/100 of a unit of currency. For example, $1 = 100¢. The word ‘cent’ is derived from the Latin word ‘centum’ which means ‘hundred’. Cent is also commonly referred to as “penny” or “centavo” with the same monetary value. The dime is usually written with a dash over the letter ‘c’.

If we talk about the use of the coin symbol, it is most often used in price lists and advertisements to represent amounts less than 1 dollar.

• For example, you could write 63 cents as 63¢ or $0.63.

Writing a value in cents is always better than an initial amount of $0. However, typing the coin sign is not as simple as in the case of the dollar sign; you don’t highlight it on the keyboard.

However, because it is part of Unicode, it is the international standard for displaying text on computers, smartphones and other devices; this means that most modern devices have a coin symbol and there are several ways to enter it digitally.

Enter Cent Sign in to Windows

To enter the coin symbol in Microsoft Windows, you need to use the Alt key along with the code that you must enter while holding the ALT key on your keyboard.

So to enter coin symbol in Microsoft Windows type 0162 while holding ALT key then release it will automatically enter coin symbol.

NOTE- If you can’t make a coin sign using the numbers listed in the top box, you can try using the numbers to the right of the keyboard.

Using the Windows character mapping program

You can also search for Alt in the cent sign or any other symbol using the Windows Character Map utility, a built-in tool in Windows.

To use this program:

• Go to the Start menu and type ‘Character Map’ in the ‘search for programs and files’ field
• Click ‘Character Map’ from the search results
• You can search for a symbol by scrolling through a character list with multiple symbols; just select the icon and copy and paste it in the desired location.

• Or you can use the search box to enter cents and jump directly to the symbol; as you can see the key combination for the coin sign is given as ‘Alt+0162’. Select the character and copy it, then paste it wherever needed.

Alternatively, you can always search for the icon in a search engine like Google or Bing and copy the word to use anywhere.

NOTE- If you are working online on Google Docs, you will need to press the same code i.e. Alt+0162 to generate the coin sign.

Enter Cent Sign in to Microsoft Word

To enter the sign in Microsoft Word, you must use the Alt key along with the code that you must enter while holding the ALT key on your keyboard.

So to type pennies in Microsoft Word, type 0162 while holding ALT key and then release it, it will automatically enter pennies.

Alternatively, type 00A2 in your Word document, then press the Alt key and the X key at the same time, and when you release your hand, it will automatically insert the coin sign.

And for Microsoft Word, you can use the ‘Character Map’ program provided by Windows, or simply copy the characters from the search engine and paste it into your Word document.

Enter the Cent symbol on Apple MacOS

To enter the coin symbol using a Mac keyboard, press the Option key and the number 4 key at the same time; this will work on all versions of macOS and Macintosh systems.

NOTE- On some Mac keyboards (Apple UK/European keyboards), the Option key can be assigned as an alternate ALT key.

Use Apple’s built-in character viewer

Another option for inserting coin symbols on your Apple device is to use Apple’s built-in character viewer.

• Hold the Control and Command keys and press the spacebar to open the ‘Character Viewer’.
• Then find the coin icon using the menu or scroll through the list.
• Press the coin icon to insert it into the program you are using.

Enter Cent Login to smartphone

To type coin symbols on your smartphone, you can use the default virtual keyboard on Android and iOS smartphones as they already have coin symbols.

To enter the coin symbol using other keyboards on your smartphone, simply press and hold the Dollar $ key on your keyboard. Select the coin symbol or any other currency symbol you want to insert.
