Gillon McClachlan’s career
McLachlan grew up on the Rosebank family farm in Mount Pleasant, South Australia. His parents are Sylvia and Angus, a former first class cricketer. The remaining three brothers are called Hamish, Will and Banjo. He is the oldest of the four. The longtime president of the South Australian Cricket Association (until 2014) and minister of defense in the Australian government is his uncle, Ian McLachlan.
McLachlan joined the Hills Football League Colts while playing Australian rules football for the now defunct Pleasant Valley club. After moving to Melbourne (VAFA), he played amateur football for the Melbourne University Blues. He was the club’s coach from 1994 to 2003, he was captain from 2000 to 2002, he won the CW
McLeod Trophy for the best and fairest in 2000, was a committee member and was inducted as a lifelong member of the club in 2003. He is also the captain and regular representative of VAFA. .
