Daniel Radcliffe Addresses MCU Wolverine Rumors Sparked By His Recent Physical Transformation

Summary

  • Daniel Radcliffe denies rumors of being cast as Wolverine in the MCU, clarifying that his recent physical transformation was not related to the role.
  • The question of whether Marvel Studios will recast Wolverine for their X-Men reboot remains unanswered.
  • Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 raises speculation about his potential involvement in the Avengers-based universe, but recasting is also a possibility.

With rumors floating around that Daniel Radcliffe is up for the role of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Wolverine because of his physical transformation, the Harry Potter star breaks his silence. The X-Men are getting closer to finally becoming part of the MCU as Marvel Studios is looking to reboot the franchise after getting back the rights to the mutants. With a new era coming up for the mutants, there are numerous characters who will be cast, and one of them is Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman in the original X-Men movies.

Since Radcliffe is still a popular fan cast for Wolverine, speculation was fueled due to his recent physical transformation, with the world suspecting that perhaps Marvel Studios is eying him to play Logan as part of the MCU’s new X-Men movie. However, Radcliffe shut down those rumors when asked during a recent lie detector test for Vanity Fair if he was the one who initially started the Wolverine rumor. When he said no, Radcliffe was hilariously asked if he got buff for no reason, and he shared the following:

No. Yes! [laughs when asked if he got buff for no reason] I got buff because I am obsessive, and I want to…you’ve seen my parents, they’re like insane fitness people. So that’s just been passed on…but no, no Wolverine. Flattered, but no.

Will Marvel Studios Actually Recast Wolverine After Deadpool 3?

The bigger question that remains unanswered is whether Marvel Studios is actually looking to have a new actor take on Wolverine when they get their X-Men movie series rolling. Deadpool 3 will see the return of Jackman as Wolverine once again, despite having finished his run in Logan. While Deadpool 3 will be the proper integration of Wade Wilson into the MCU, it’s unclear if Jackman’s Wolverine might be joining the Avengers-based universe, too, ahead of the X-Men reboot.

Given Jackman’s Wolverine legacy, it would be understandable if Marvel Studios managed to have him signed on for the X-Men reboot, especially in a world where they co-exist side-by-side with the Avengers. If Jackman ends up also being in Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumored to be a soft reboot for the MCU, having him continue after The Multiverse Saga would be an organic way to re-establish him in the role. But on the other hand, if they are recasting the majority of the mutants, it would make sense if they have a new actor as Wolverine, too, allowing someone different to take over for Jackman.

With the SAG-AFTRA strike still in place, time will tell if Jackman ends up having a new journey as Wolverine after Deadpool 3 (which has currently paused production) or if someone else gets cast in his place for the MCU. Despite Radcliffe’s comments, it would be hilarious if this ends up being another case where an actor has to lie about their MCU involvement until Marvel Studios make the announcement themselves. For now, the world will have to wait and see who the MCU ends up going with as Wolverine in their X-Men reboot.
