They discovered the tragic family – two young girls, a 45-year-old man and woman, 36, dead inside.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Burgess, of Norfolk Police, confirmed three of the people lived at the home, with the fourth visiting.

He also said police had had previous contact with the residents following a missing persons inquiry before Christmas.

No further details have been released by police over how they died but Gary Blundell, a Lib Dem councillor, said there is “no danger to the public”.

A police cordon is currently in place on the quiet residential estate in Allan Bedford Crescent.

One local told the BBC that police are not letting people leave their homes while they investigate.

They added: “I spoke with the officers at the cordon and they said it was likely to be there for most of the day but they would not tell me anything more than that.”

Investigations by the Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team are now underway to formally identify the four people.

DCI Burgess said: “Our investigation is in the very early stages and this is clearly a very distressing and tragic incident.

“While we’re following a number of lines of enquiry, at this time we believe this is an isolated incident.
