Bing Chat and ChatGPT are two of the latest natural language chatbots that are widely available and they both compete for your attention and text queries. Both AIs are based on similar language models, but there are some clear differences between them, which makes the discussion about ChatGPT and Bing Chat worthwhile.

How do you use ChatGPT and Bing Chat?
Both Bing Chat and ChatGPT are available for general use, but the way to access them is slightly different.
ChatGPT is widely available and can be accessed through the main OpenAI website. You can use ChatGPT for free once you create an account, and there are ways to quickly access it from your desktop or Mac if you need to.

Bing Chat is also available and is no longer on the waiting list. However, it requires you to download the latest version of Microsoft Edge, which is a bit annoying. On the other hand, Bing Chat is available on multiple platforms including the Edge mobile browser for smartphones. Not only can you access it through the official website, but you can also access it through Bing on any device that supports it. There are also Bing Chat integrations in Skype, Teams, and the Edge browser. ChatGPT is available on Slack and coming soon to Discord.
ChatGPT is free to use, but there is a premium paid tier, known as ChatGPT Plus, which provides better access to the tool, including GPT-4. Bing Chat is completely free, but there is a limit of 150 conversations you can have per day, with a limit of 15 per session. Conversation length is also limited to 2,000 characters per question or answer. ChatGPT also has a character limit, but there is currently no limit to the number of conversations you can have per day.
What language models do ChatGPT and Bing Chat use?
The current version of ChatGPT that you can access for free is based on the GPT-3.5 language model. According to Microsoft, Bing Chat actually uses the more advanced GPT-4 model, which was recently announced.
In theory, this means that Bing Chat should be more useful. Just make sure you don’t miss War games playing certain games, as Bing Chat has been known to get a bit existential at times.
Both ChatGPT and Bing Chat are based on the same underlying language model, known as GPT-3.5. They have access to information up to and including 2021, which gives them enormous leeway to answer questions in natural language with relatively up-to-date information. Bing Chat, on the other hand, has the ability to pull from newer web sources. He also received additional training so that he could better follow instructions and perform more nuanced tasks.
What can you do with ChatGPT and Bing Chat?
The main function of ChatGPT and Bing Chat is that they can understand when you ask them questions or make statements in natural and human language. ChatGPT is particularly good at creative writing, so if you ask it to write something on a certain topic or in another writer’s style, it will result in a very credible attempt to deliver. Note, however, that ChatGPT cannot be checked against multiple sources, so you can introduce errors with the same confidence as you can with statements of fact.
Bing Chat isn’t very good at that kind of writing, because it can’t provide answers that long and is based more on facts than creative efforts. However, Bing Chat has a number of discrete modes that you can switch to, turning it into a virtual assistant or casual friend to chat with you about everyday life.
It’s great to be able to choose between Creative, Balanced, and Precise, allowing you to tailor your conversations to your goal. ChatGPT’s one-size-fits-all approach requires a bit more nuance and description in the instructions.
There is also a hidden game mode, where you can play trivia, gallows and other simple games with him.
Finally, Bing Chat has its new Copilot mode, which divides it into three modes: chat, compose, and information. Open as a sidebar next to what you’re browsing, these modes help Bing Chat reduce responses and focus your queries.
AI Imaging
Bing Chat recently got an AI image generation feature, which Microsoft calls Bing Image Creator. Based on the “advanced” DALL-E model, Bing Image Creator allows you to generate images directly in the context of a chat, something ChatGPT hasn’t done yet.

Is Bing Chat more accurate than ChatGPT?
Bing Chat has the potential to be more accurate than ChatGPT because it is based on more recent information and relies on multiple sources of information.
ChatGPT relies on a single data source from its language model, so it doesn’t have access to recent information and can’t compare your responses to confirm accuracy.
Since Bing Chat is based on GPT-4, in theory it should be a bit more powerful and nuanced than ChatGPT. Early testing of GPT-4 on ChatGPT Plus has shown some promising results so far, such as one user’s success creating a functional tennis game in less than 60 seconds.
In terms of accuracy, another cool feature that Bing Chat offers is “learn more” suggestions. Not only is it a more ethical and transparent way to display information, but it also gives you the next place, more like a real search engine.
Both chatbots have their place
Bing Chat and ChatGPT are very exciting new tools with a lot of potential. Each is better at certain things, Bing Chat is better at finding the latest information and acting as an assistant, while ChatGPT is more adept at creative conversations or helping to write in a certain style. It can be great for instructions or to correct something you’ve written.
However, Bing Chat is a good place to start. If this is your first time, it may be a good place to start, given the guidance and instructions provided by Microsoft. However, when it comes down to it, the 15 chats per session and 150 conversations limit and the requirement to download Edge will drive people to ChatGPT first, allowing for additional exploration without having to worry about using up your daily allowance.
