Dakota Meyer, her ex-husband, was born and raised in a small town near Columbia, Kentucky, and graduated from Green County High School. Meyer never considered joining the Marines. He was thinking about joining the army. When a Marine recruiter informed him in high school that he wouldn’t be able to join the Marines, he enlisted the next day. He described it as a challenge. After enlistment, he went to Paris Island and then to Camp Geiger in North Carolina for military training. After completing his training, he was stationed in Hawaii for the next four years.
