Bulent Gurcan, a seasoned competitor in N*aked and Afraid, embarked on a fresh challenge in N*aked and Afraid: Castaways. The show dropped nine experienced participants in the Pacific Ocean, tasking them with swimming to and surviving on a deserted island without any tools or map. Forming teams of three, they set out on a 21-day survival journey, aiming to reach an extraction point for rescue.
After previous adventures alone in the African bush, Bulent was yearning for something different from the standard 30-day jungle experience. Thus, with the arrival of the new N*aked and Afraid franchise, he insisted on pursuing uncharted territory.
As a pilot commuting regularly between Point Roberts and Lynden, Bulent saw “Castaways” as real-life training for potential emergency aircraft landings on water. And he couldn’t be more true. In the show, Bulent faces challenges such as sharks, sandflies, and the different approaches to planning taken by millennials, contrasting it with the resourceful nature of Gen Xers like himself.
The show’s trailer also teased a confrontation between Bulent and an armadillo, emphasizing the law of the wild — survival of the fittest.
“Yeah, it gonna be epic. Honored to be a part of this team of amazing people,” Bulent promoted the show on his IG before daring his fans to “be against me.”
Bulent made his debut on the popular Discovery Channel show back in 2018. Sadly, his lower back issues hindered his progress, also leading him to retire early from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Having participated in four seasons, Bulent emphasized that the initial awkwardness of nudity quickly fades away. According to him, the focus shifts to enduring the challenges of heat, humidity, and extensive hiking to reach various locations very quickly.

In 2008, Bulent transitioned to the Department of Homeland Security/Customs and Border Protection as a CBP Officer, where he worked until 2018. During this time, he was stationed in Point Roberts, WA.
