ORIGIN August Alsina is an American singer and songwriter. He rose to prominence with the single “I Luv This” featuring Trinidad James. His discography includes the albums Testimony (2014) and This Thing Called Life (2015). He’s currently signed to Def Jam Recordings. August Anthony Alsina Jr. was born on September 3, 1992, in New Orleans, Louisiana. At age 13, he relocated to Houston, Texas, with his mother Sheila. The move came shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Alsina faced his fair share of hardships and struggles as a child. He dropped out of high school and was homeless at one point. His brother, Melvin, was shot and killed in 2010. The loss served as a wake-up call. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia, in 2011.

He won the 2014 BET Award for the best new artist. He was also named to the 2014 XXL Freshmen class.

Alsina was featured on the song “Hold You Down” from DJ Khaled‘s 8th album, I Changed a Lot (2014). Later that year he collaborated with rapper Kevin Gates on the track “I Don’t Get Tired” from the mixtape, Luca Brasi 2 (2014). Alsina’s second full-length album, This Thing Called Life, was released in December 2015. It sold 41,000 copies during the first week.
