2023 is just the beginning, and we already have a great selection of entertaining movies. January gave us terrible pleasures M3GAN and infinity poolwhile February allowed us to cheer along with 80 for Brady and dance Magical Mike’s Last Dance. April’s lineup is just as impressive, with the long-awaited animated adaptation of Nintendo’s beloved video game franchise, an Air Jordan origin movie, and another Guy Ritchie action flick. What more can you ask? Here are 6 movies you should watch in April 2023.

“It’s me Mario!” Few words bring as much joy to generations as those spoken by everyone’s favorite interdimensional traveler, stomping plumber Italian Koopa. Finally, decades after the infamous 1993 bombing Super Mario Bros.Nintendo’s main mascot returns to the big screen, this time in animated form thanks to Illumination Entertainment, the geniuses behind My favorite villain, subjectsand Sing films.
After the initial outcry over the casting of non-Italian Chris Pratt for the Italian role of Mario, fans seem to have fallen in love with every trailer, clip, and image released thus far. In addition to Pratt, the vocal cast is stellar, with Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, MenuAnya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. The film appears to be fan service at its finest, with plenty of Rainbow Roads, Thwomps, and Warp Zones featured to satisfy nostalgic older fans and young children alike. In a lively landscape full of people, Super Mario Bros. movie stands out and is sure to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023.
Air (April 7)
You may think the origin story of a pair of shoes is boring, but this movie, directed by and starring Ben Affleck, isn’t just about an old pair of shoes; It’s all about the creation of Air Jordans! That’s right, the must-have staple of the 1990s is getting the big screen treatment with an impressive cast enlisted to tell the story: Matt Damon, Jason Bateman, Chris Tucker and, as Michael Jordan’s mother, the award-winning Oscar Viola Davis.
Air As if it were more about shoes, as the trailer shows, it will examine the rise of a young Michael Jordan as a basketball superstar and how Nike, and then the world, quickly realized that they were witnessing the birth of a legend. Affleck hasn’t directed a movie in a long time, but as he proved with his Oscar-winning movie Slangit is more than capable of combining historical drama with subtle satire.
Renfield (April 14)

Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula; that alone is enough of a selling point to see Renfield. The film is a comedic look at the abuse of Dracula’s number one assistant, s a greatNicholas Hoult in the title role and Awkwafina as the disbelieving police officer.
Given the talent gathered here, that seems next to impossible. Renfield it won’t have much to delight anyone looking to have a good time at the movies. Cage is known to give amazing performances, and Dracula is a role that definitely requires a lot of work. The movie’s trailer has already created a lot of anticipation with its unique mix of horror and comedy, so count on me to watch this movie on day one.
Evil Dead Rise (April 14)

It’s hard to believe that the Evil Dead franchise is over 40 years old. It’s even harder to imagine that the franchise could survive and thrive without original director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell. in 2013 the bad death the remake, directed by Fede Alvarez, was surprisingly good, a smart and witty reimagining of the original that paid homage to Raimi’s film but set a bold new vision for the franchise.
The inevitable sequel is due in April, and its rapturous reception at SXSW suggests it retains Raimi’s trademark gritty violence and humor. The film’s story, about a dysfunctional family dealing with their zombified mother, stands apart from all the others. the bad death plot films, but it shares the same understated horror and laugh-out-loud tension that made Raimi’s original trilogy and the remake so great.
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant (April 21)

Beau is afraid (April 21)

Ari Aster isn’t exactly known for being funny, but if the trailers are any help Beau is scared To be believed, the film will be an attempt to meld Aster’s horror sensibilities, honed in A24 horror movies like Hereditary and midsummerwith a slightly more existential theme.
The film, which could last up to four hours, has been described as a “nightmarish comedy”. Not much is known, except that Joaquin Phoenix appears to be aging from a child to a senior and is on a quest to find…something. If all of this sounds vague, well, that’s because the movie is so shrouded in mystery that you’re left with no choice but to wonder what it could be. Aster has an impeccable reputation for making compelling movies, and it’s always interesting to see Phoenix in whatever role he finds himself in.
