10 MCU Roles Perfect For Timothée Chalamet After He Sparks Casting Rumors

Summary

  • Timothée Chalamet has suggested that he’d be open to joining the MCU if the script and director are great.
  • There are several brilliant heroes and villains from Marvel Comics that Timothée Chalamet could bring to life in the MCU.
  • Timothée Chalamet could portray Teddy Altman, Ben Reilly, Franklin Richards or Harry Osborn in the MCU, among many others.

Following his recent comments, Timothée Chalamet may have created the opportunity to bring some brilliant Marvel Comics characters to life in the MCU. American and French actor Timothée Chalamet has risen to international acclaim with roles in Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy and Bones and All, setting himself up as one of the most promising actors of his generation. Chalamet has recently starred as Willy Wonka in Paul King’s Wonka, and as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s epic two-parter Dune and Dune: Part Two, but Chalamet is yet to take on a role in the MCU.

During a recent interview with the New York Times to speak about 2024’s Dune: Part Two, Timothée Chalamet was questioned whether he’d ever considered a role in a superhero franchise such as the MCU. Aside from noting that Leonardo DiCaprio had warned him against joining a superhero franchise, Chalamet suggested that “if the script was great, [and] if the director was great,” he’d certainly consider it. This creates the opportunity for Chalamet to assume a role in the MCU, and there are several powerful Marvel Comics heroes and villains that Timothée Chalamet could bring to life in the MCU’s future.

Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, “No superhero movies, no hard drugs.” Which I thought was very good. I follow them both! But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, “The Dark Knight.” If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.

10 Timothée Chalamet Could Debut As Missing Young Avenger Teddy Altman

Teddy Altman’s Hulkling Is A Prominent Member Of Marvel Comics’ Young Avengers

Teddy Altman's Hulkling with the Young Avengers in Marvel Comics

Marvel Studios has recently teased the formation of the MCU’s Young Avengers, particularly in 2023’s The Marvels, so Timothée Chalamet could portray Teddy Altman, a.k.a. Hulkling. Teddy Altman debuted in 2005’s Young Avengers #1 as the son of Kree superhero Captain Mar-Vell and Skrull Princess Anelle, resulting in him exhibiting various powerful abilities. Altman is an important character to introduce into the MCU, as he would bring much-needed LGBTQ+ representation into the franchise, due to his marriage to the Scarlet Witch’s son, Billy Kaplan, a.k.a. Wiccan, who has been heavily rumored to appear in Phase 5’s upcoming Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Joe Locke has been heavily rumored to be playing Billy Kaplan in Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, the reincarnated son of the Scarlet Witch, with the previous iteration being played by Julian Hilliard in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

9 Kurt Wagner’s Nightcrawler May Be Reinvented For The MCU

Alan Cumming & Kodi Smit-McPhee Played Nightcrawler In Fox’s X-Men Universe

Following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, mutants and the X-Men have begun to be integrated into the MCU. This has been a slow process, but is expected to pick up after the release of 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, so Kurt Wagner’s introduction may be on the horizon. Wagner’s Nightcrawler, a mutant with a teleportation ability, was portrayed by Alan Cumming and Kodi Smit-McPhee in Fox’s X-Men Universe, but could be reinvented for Timothée Chalamet in the MCU. Chalamet’s dark hair and slim physique matches Nightcrawler perfectly, and his casting would bring some star-power to the often-neglected character.

8 Timothée Chalamet Has The Perfect Look For A Younger Loki Variant

Tom Hiddleston Has Played The MCU’s Loki Since 2011’s Thor

Young Loki with Mjolnir in Marvel Comics

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki has been on quite the journey since his MCU debut in 2011’s Thor, culminating in him becoming the God of Stories at the end of 2023’s Loki season 2. While it’s unclear whether Hiddleston will reprise the role in the MCU’s future, new Loki variants could be introduced, so, similarly to Jack Veal’s Kid Loki in Loki season 1, Timothée Chalamet could portray a younger version of the God of Mischief. Chalamet has the perfect image to portray Loki in the MCU, so his casting in the MCU could revert the character to his villainous, scheming roots.

7 Ben Reilly’s Scarlet Spider Could Pay Off Chalamet’s Early Spider-Man Dreams

Ben Reilly Is A Clone Of Peter Parker In Marvel Comics

According to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2018, Timothée Chalamet auditioned for the role of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, for the character’s MCU debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. While it’s very unlikely that Chalamet will take over from Tom Holland as the MCU’s wall-crawler, it’s possible that he could portray Peter Parker’s clone, Ben Reilly. Known as the Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly was created by the Jackal in 1975’s The Amazing Spider-Man #149, and played a huge role in 1994’s Clone Saga storyline, and this may be the perfect chance for Chalamet to finally live his Spider-Man dreams.

6 Cullen Bloodstone’s Family Have Already Appeared In The MCU

Cullen Bloodstone Is The Younger Brother Of Elsa Bloodstone

First seen in 2012’s Avengers Arena #1, Cullen Bloodstone is the son of Ulysses Bloodstone and younger brother of Elsa Bloodstone, the latter of whom was portrayed by Laura Donnelly in the MCU’s Werewolf by Night Special Presentation. At ten-years-old, Cullen was taken into another dimension by his father, in the hopes that he’d grow stronger, but he became trapped following Ulysses’ death, only to return bonded to a terrifying creature. This storyline could unfold in the MCU, as Ulysses Bloodstone died prior to Werewolf by Night, and Timothée Chalamet has the youth and slightly-sinister touch perfect for Cullen Bloodstone.

5 Warren Worthington III’s Angel Was A Founding X-Men Member In Marvel Comics

Ben Foster & Ben Hardy Played Angel In Fox’s X-Men Universe

Warren Worthington III’s Angel is one of Marvel Comics’ most iconic and memorable mutant characters, but was several wasted in Fox’s X-Men Universe. Timothée Chalamet could portray a more central version of Angel, perhaps even allowing the character to be a founding member of the MCU’s X-Men team, just like in Marvel Comics. Angel, later transformed into the darker and broodier Archangel, has huge feathered wings (metal in his Archangel form) that enable him to fly, as well as a regenerative healing factor. Chalamet’s star-power would benefit Angel in the MCU, making him a core member of the X-Men team.

4 Timothée Chalamet Could Reinvent Morbius, The Living Vampire, For The MCU

Sony’s 2022 Morbius Movie Is Regarded As One Of The Worst Superhero Movies Ever

Morbius the Living Vampire attacking in Marvel Comics

Sony developed 2022’s Morbius as the third project in the studio’s own Spider-Man franchise, but the Jared Leto-led project was a monumental disappointment. In Marvel Comics, Morbius, the Living Vampire, is a prominent villain-turned-antihero who feeds on the blood of the guilty, and, as a powerful and long-lasting member of the Midnight Sons, it’s possible he could be reimagined for the MCU following Sony’s failure. Timothée Chalamet has the perfect look for Morbius, and has experience playing bloodthirsty characters such as cannibal Lee in 2022’s Bones and All, so could put these grotesque skills to good use in the MCU.

3 A Younger X-Men Team Could Debut Chalamet As Gambit

Taylor Kitsch Played Gambit In 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine

There has been confusion regarding how Marvel Studios will actually introduce the X-Men into the MCU. One theory suggests that younger mutants could debut and bring the X-Men together, akin to 2011’s X-Men: First Class. This could mean that Timothée Chalamet may be cast as a younger mutant such as Gambit, perhaps using his French background to fully inhabit Remy LeBeau’s Cajun roots and accent. Channing Tatum has long lobbied to play Gambit in live-action, but it’s very unlikely that he’ll bring the character officially into the MCU, but Chalamet certainly has the range to take on this layered character.

2 The Fantastic Four May Hint At Franklin Richards’ MCU Future

Franklin Richards Is The Son Of Reed Richards & Sue Storm

Franklin Richards using his power in Marvel Comics

Marvel Studios finally confirmed the cast for The Fantastic Four in February 2024, but the slightly older ages of Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm has led some to speculate that the pair’s children could also be introduced. This may present the perfect opportunity for Timothée Chalamet to debut as Franklin Richards, originally a young mutant with reality-warping abilities. Chalamet shares some physical attributes to both Pascal and Kirby, so it wouldn’t be outlandish to see him cast as Franklin Richards, and his boyish charm and youthful energy would fit the young, but incredibly powerful, character perfectly.

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four reboot will star Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards’ Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm’s Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm’s Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm’s Thing.

1 Timothée Chalamet Is Perfect For Harry Osborn In The MCU’s Future Spider-Man Stories

Harry Osborn Is Peter Parker’s Best Friend In Marvel Comics

Long before his recent comments, Timothée Chalamet has been routinely fan-cast in several MCU roles, and the most prominent is Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend in Marvel Comics. Despite being a prominent part of Peter Parker’s evolution into Spider-Man, Harry Osborn, and his father Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin, have yet to be seen in the MCU. With Tom Holland’s Peter Parker friendless after 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, now may be the perfect opportunity to debut Harry Osborn, and since Timothée Chalamet and Tom Holland are similar ages, this casting could be a match made in heaven.
