Following his recent comments, Timothée Chalamet may have created the opportunity to bring some brilliant Marvel Comics characters to life in the MCU. American and French actor Timothée Chalamet has risen to international acclaim with roles in Call Me By Your Name, Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy and Bones and All, setting himself up as one of the most promising actors of his generation. Chalamet has recently starred as Willy Wonka in Paul King’s Wonka, and as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s epic two-parter Dune and Dune: Part Two, but Chalamet is yet to take on a role in the MCU.
During a recent interview with the New York Times to speak about 2024’s Dune: Part Two, Timothée Chalamet was questioned whether he’d ever considered a role in a superhero franchise such as the MCU. Aside from noting that Leonardo DiCaprio had warned him against joining a superhero franchise, Chalamet suggested that “if the script was great, [and] if the director was great,” he’d certainly consider it. This creates the opportunity for Chalamet to assume a role in the MCU, and there are several powerful Marvel Comics heroes and villains that Timothée Chalamet could bring to life in the MCU’s future.
Well, Leonardo DiCaprio said to me, “No superhero movies, no hard drugs.” Which I thought was very good. I follow them both! But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, “The Dark Knight.” If the script was great, if the director was great, I’d have to consider it.

Wiccan, who has been heavily rumored to appear in Phase 5’s upcoming Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Wagner’s Nightcrawler, a mutant with a teleportation ability, was portrayed by Alan Cumming and Kodi Smit-McPhee in Fox’s X-Men Universe, but could be reinvented for Timothée Chalamet in the MCU. Chalamet’s dark hair and slim physique matches Nightcrawler perfectly, and his casting would bring some star-power to the often-neglected character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2018, Timothée Chalamet auditioned for the role of Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, for the character’s MCU debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. While it’s very unlikely that Chalamet will take over from Tom Holland as the MCU’s wall-crawler, it’s possible that he could portray Peter Parker’s clone, Ben Reilly. Known as the Scarlet Spider, Ben Reilly was created by the Jackal in 1975’s The Amazing Spider-Man #149, and played a huge role in 1994’s Clone Saga storyline, and this may be the perfect chance for Chalamet to finally live his Spider-Man dreams.

This could mean that Timothée Chalamet may be cast as a younger mutant such as Gambit, perhaps using his French background to fully inhabit Remy LeBeau’s Cajun roots and accent. Channing Tatum has long lobbied to play Gambit in live-action, but it’s very unlikely that he’ll bring the character officially into the MCU, but Chalamet certainly has the range to take on this layered character.
