According to the report, Mr Sharp appeared to have a conflict of interest by not fully disclosing what he knew about the former prime minister’s personal finances.

His position came under scrutiny after it was reported that he had tried to arrange a high-level government meeting for a businessman who was offering Mr Johnson financial help. Mr Sharp justified his actions but said he did not want to cause disturbance.

After months of rumors about Mr Sharp’s position and a dispute over BBC independence, a damning study led by lawyer Adam Heppinstall was published on Friday. The investigation follows revelations in the Sunday Times that Mr Sharp, a close friend of Mr Johnson, was involved in the Prime Minister’s personal finances at the time he was seeking office.

After reading reports that the Prime Minister was facing financial difficulties in the second half of 2020, Mr Sharp tried to arrange a meeting between Cabinet Secretary Simon Case and Sam Blyth, a distant relative of the Prime Minister. Mr Johnson, who has promised to help the Prime Minister financially. When he approached Mr Case about the top job at the BBC, the former investment banker and Conservative Party supporter applied. A few months later he was hired.

According to the report, he failed to disclose two obvious conflicts of interest: first, by telling Mr Johnson that he wanted to apply for a job at the BBC before he did; and second, by telling the Prime Minister that he intends to arrange a meeting between Mr. Case, the country’s most senior civil servant, and Mr. Blyth.

It noted that while Mr Sharp expressed regret over the second error, which he described as “inadvertent and unimportant”, he disagreed with the first conclusion.

Since Mr Sharp had attempted to help the Prime Minister deal with his personal finances, the report concluded that “there is a risk that Mr. Sharp was offered the appointment” and/or “that he influenced the former Prime Minister. general to recommend him”. by notifying him of his application before he put up with it.”

Although the meeting between Mr Case and Mr Blyth was adjourned, the report said that although his involvement in Mr Johnson’s personal finances was “very limited” it should have been disclosed.
